Shane and I have talked a lot about this, and there are some things about being a woman that he never even considered, being a man. A white man, at that - a white, blond, blue-eyed man, who is as pretty WASP-y as you can get - and here you have me, his Asian-American wife who is the child of immigrant parents. He's a physicist, so he's had a lot of exposure to minorities and especially women in the sciences, but sometimes most of this stuff goes in without him thoroughly understanding what it means.
(on the other hand, it's somewhat different for him too, as a white scientist, where the vast majority of the people who works with are either Chinese or Indian men)

Yeah - this is the case in the Research building up the street; men still out number women slightly, but I am fairly sure our number of 'minority' scientists outnumbers our number of white, American-grown scientists (I am sure I am not using PC language here and I apologize >.>). Science is a pretty interesting field in that light; we've come a long way in a lot of ways.
