Seeking Understanding [Helen, TOS!Spock]

May 16, 2010 00:06

After leaving Nero and Ayel, Helen went immediately to her office, still absorbing everything she'd learned. Ask the Vulcans, Ayel had said. Talk to Spock. He hadn't been able to tell her what, exactly, to ask about. But he'd been insistent. And even Nero had grudgingly agreed to let her share what he'd said.

Dr. Noel,

If you would suggest a time fitting to your schedule, I shall, of course, meet with you on this matter. I am aware of that which Ayel cannot explain. It is a matter of some cultural privacy; however, he lacks the training to adequately describe it thus I will do so in his stead.

Spock.

Commander,

Thank you for your willingness to assist me in this matter. Would you be available to meet tomorrow afternoon? If not, please suggest a time more convenient for you; I can adjust my schedule accordingly.

I am attaching the location and directions to my temporary office here on Sha'Kwai. Thank you again. I look forward to meeting with you.

Helen Noel

Dr. Noel,

That is acceptable. I shall meet you at the appointed time and place.

Spock.

He met her at the appointed time; such was Spock's way. He was curious though, he would admit to that much, curious what Ayel had said, what Dr. Noel had gathered on her own, what he would be required to reveal.

The secrets of Vulcan, secrets no longer.

She met him at the door, smiling as she invited him in. Commander Spock was at once familiar, from her meetings with Len, and entirely different.

"Thank you for meeting with me," she said, as they sat down. "I appreciate your willingness to help."

His head inclined in acknowledgement.

"It is illogical to offer thanks for that which should be expected."

"Perhaps so," Helen allowed. "But I appreciate it nevertheless. And I'm sure Ayel does, too."

She paused.

"Your message indicated that you already know what I'm going to ask you about," she said. "And that it's something that isn't generally spoken of, in your culture. Please forgive me, then, if anything I ask is gauche or taboo."
