If questioned, Tommy Oliver would be the first to admit that he doesn't visit Angel Grove as often as he should, or as often as he wants to. He'd also be the first to protest that it's really not his fault, at least to those cleared to know what goes on in his everyday life. Having a full-time civilian job and pulling full-time Ranger duty as well isn't exactly easy. Being the team leader makes it that much more difficult, because what little free time Tommy does have tends to get devoured by extra work, battle analysis, training the kids, and so on. True, he visits more now than he did before, and with good reason -- but he still can't drive down every weekend, and his trips often get interrupted or cut short by emergencies.

That's what makes times like this all the more valuable, the Ranger thinks as he pulls into a familiar dirt driveway. With school out for the winter holidays, and with a lull in Mesogog's attacks, he'll hopefully be getting to spend a few solid days in and around Angel Grove before returning to Reefside. He's already planned a visit to the Scott household to say hello to Jason's parents, and there's certainly going to be a hopefully lengthy visit with the man himself before Tommy goes to stay with the Olivers for Christmas day, complete with the usual (and occasionally stressful) family gathering.

First, however, he has other equally important family to visit outside of the city. Tommy had learned to like the Reservation when he was a teenager and made regular trips to visit his brother and Sam Trueheart, and this is a visit that he's both been anticipating and dreading for the past few weeks. Anticipating because he gets to see his family, dreading because he knows he's going to be putting a lot of burden on his brother's shoulders -- and because he's not sure how David is going to take the news.

-It's not like he's ever been unable to keep your secrets before, though,- Tommy tells himself as he gets out of his 4x4 and heads for the front door. -You're just getting your shorts in a knot because you don't know how he's going to react. Speaking of which, you were a bit of a dick yourself, telling him you had something important to talk about but refusing to elaborate.-

At least he doesn't see Sam's pickup truck in the driveway; the guy's probably off getting dinner. That should make things a bit easier. Tommy feels a little less nervous as he knocks on the door. After all, it's one thing to confide in David, his brother, the man who's kept Tommy's identity a secret for several years. It's another thing entirely to say anything in front of Sam, because while Tommy loves him and considers the man to be his family, it would be like trying to talk about things with a parent at this point.
