Here's what's awesome about me: I downgraded my cable (and forgot to post about it, but I'll try to remember now) to a package that is basically only the local channels. (Plus for some reason it has CNBC or CSPAN or one of those things and NASA. And a couple of shopping channels.) The town I live in requires whoever uses their right of way for cable to provide such a package for like $12/mo or somesuch.

Point being, we seem to be failing utterly to miss the rest of cable. Nor do I miss paying another $25/mo (or somesuch) for the privilege of ignoring it.

We've used DirecTV for the last twelve or so years.

Does cable pop up with those amazingly annoying ads at the bottom, that cover up half the screen and either pimp some show coming up or something on another of that affiliate's channels? I'm trying to figure out if I should write hate mail to the station or the idiots at DirecTV (they both claim it's the other's fault).

Ummm... maybe, if it's what I'm thinking of?

FOR example: I'm watching, oh... say something on CBS. The show starts and this HUGE head pops up at the bottom of the screen, seems to go almost halfway up, then goes down to this banner taking up the bottom 1/4 of the screen, pimping this show starting in ... September? October? I can't remember. I didn't see all of it because the closed captioning covers up part of that (and joy to the day when they figure that out and cause the captioning to go to the top of the screen like they do during credits... then I won't be able to see ANY of the show).

Unfortunately, as I was pointing out months ago, Skiffy's management simply doesn't give a shit about its existing viewers, because it's obsessed with getting a new audience. I figure that this is a brilliant business move, right up there with New Coke.

WHAT new audience? Mouth-breathers? I think even cat-piss men would be a better choice.

You don't watch Eureka? I <3 it.

Eureka's pretty much the only thing I watch on Sci-Fi.

My husband's going to have a minor brain explosion when I tell him Atlantis is being cancelled, although I think he just likes to sleep with Stargate/BSG/whatever running for background noise. It sure beats screaming kids and thinking about the upstairs neighbor dog (who is very nice and well-behaved but sounds like a small elephant when she gets excited).

I might get the Eureka DVDs on Netflix but I won't watch anything on Sci-Fi again, except possibly the last few death rattles of BSG.

We got rid of cable/satellite all together and now we just watch all the Canadian stations for free, like their health care. :)

Can't get those down here, we're juuuust out of reach.

Are they switching over to that "OMG YOU HAVE TO GET A BOX TO WATCH OUR SHIT BECAUSE IT WILL BE DIGITAL OVER THE AIR" stuff like the American channels?
