Ok, that aside ... your idea of ironing seems to be quite good - but with a layer of something in between, not direct iron-to-glue.
Suggest you do a test using a similar test piece.
If you're not too brave, perhaps softening the hot glue using a hair dryer before smoothing them out? Might help to keep the hair dryer blowing constantly while u do that ...

I can't believe you're building an actual guitar. *__* The most amazing prop guitar I've ever seen was this one by the way, just in case you want to take any pointers, hehe~ I'm sure yours will turn out just as impressively!
Your idea to iron the glue is awesome. XD I'll keep that in mind if I ever think of working with hot glue!

Yes, just put it on the setting for wool and try to use a non-stick iron. And the only thing I've learned is try to keep the glue usage to a minimum.
