Hmmm... I actually don't feel like that's a problem. I like to remember every now and then to be thankful for all the things I've got. I see it as a way of readjusting your set-point for happiness. If you become too myopic, it's easy to turn in to a spoiled brat and forget to appreciate the simple things in life like having a home or having something to eat. This shouldn't require you being thankful to someone for this. I think you can just "be thankful" in the abstract and that's just fine. It's just a way of reminding yourself how lucky you are. A way of appreciating the positive aspects of your own situation, or perhaps the situation of the world.
