L has been asleep through most of the day, but now that he's awake, he finds that he wants a cup of hot tea. He doesn't want to wake Misa, so he leaves a note, and decides to take a walk to the kitchen. Someone or other there will probably help him, and the change of scene might improve his mood ( Read more... )

*No, Mail won't be happy, but after eating and then resting for a little while that felt like forever, Mel feels a little better, and she has to talk to Ryuzaki. So she steals borrows Mail's clothes again, leaves a note of her own, and goes looking.*

L! I mean, Ryuzaki- Are you OK?

*She's not going to argue with him out loud, but she moves very slowly as she guides them toward the table.*

Sunday night? I think that's when... one of the little mes came into our room. He was definitely there. Just acting weird. Mail saw him too- shit, does that mean...

*Stops herself, and uses a foot to drag one of the chairs out from the table for him.*

*He sits down at the table.*

Thank you.

A little Mello, you mean?

... What was he doing?

*She nods, and, moving slowly, gets the kettle and puts it on.*

He... thought he saw his mom, in the mirror. He was talking to her. We'd just seen some of that green slime, too. Oh! And when he touched the mirror, it kind of... rippled. *frowns*

*He puts his elbows on the table and rests his chin in his hands, still holding the paper towel up to his nose, which continues its slow drip. It makes him sound slightly congested when he speaks.*

Rippled? Did Mail see it ripple, too?

The other night, Elle told me about a child Mello seeing things in mirrors. The boy is staying with him.

Yeah, Mail saw it too.

Oh, good. I was awfully worried about him... What kind of tea would you like?

*He shrugs.*

Whatever is there, very sweet. Jasmine, if there's more than a little.

It doesn't sound like it... was a simple hallucination, if you both saw... the same thing.

*He tries to catch his breath.*

I know how to do jasmine. *Sad; it was Near's favorite. She starts getting it ready.*

No, it- I don't know what it was. But little Mello didn't seem sick. Just, um. Not right in the head.

*frowns at him* Is there anything else I can do for you?

Thank you.

Mel, have you noticed -- have you seen any of the other children?

Are any of them ill -- sick like us?

*The water's ready, and she pours it carefully and brings the tea and sugar bowl over.* It has to steep a long time, right?

*thinks* Only little Near. He wasn't sick, no.

Three minutes... five. The green tea is bitter -- if you oversteep it.

And... have you heard of any new -- cases, since we all -- became symptomatic? Or did every--one who is sick get -- sick at the same time?

OK. *glances at the clock to mind it*

I think... we all got sick the same time. Right after that- whatever, in this room. But I haven't- been out too much.

I was sick before that -- not as sick. Light, possibly Near, too.

*He catches his breath.*

Doesn't it strike -- you as odd?
An epidemic this virulent -- hits everyone at once -- without affecting children... seems like it should be the -- other way around. Disease vectors.

I might not've noticed. 'cause I had a cold right before.

It does! But... I don't know what it means. Except that it's not normal. Which we knew.

*She sighs, and finishes making the tea, pushing the cup and sugar over to Ryuzaki.* Let me know if this isn't right.

*He raises it to sip, splashing a little over the side, but not spilling it on himself; it's a matter of pride that he doesn't, at this point.*

It's good. Thank you.

Did you -- hear things, or see things -- before we found it? Or... anything strange... with hands?

*She starts to reach for a rag, and hopes she caught herself in time to pretend she didn't notice.*

You're welcome.

...hands? No? *more positively* No. But things were creepier. Like, flickery lights, and places where it suddenly got hotter.
