The LOVE BOAT

Had a fucking FANTASTIC day today:

Went to Catalina. Round trip is only $43 -- considering a tank of gas is $35, that ain't bad at all.

First off, stumpykitty and I rented a two-person kayak and went tearing off around the Marina area. Beautiful water, ocean breeze, and simply a marvelous feeling of freedom; and, as we soon found out, one hell of a great ( Read more... )

how the hell big is your gas tank??! or is it more expensive than a 1.68?? that's what it soared to here this past weekend... :(

and, i can't make myself breath through the snorkels... after a couple gags i give up and just do it all normally. :-P

sounds like fun though. wish there was swimming in NJ but BLAH. NJ sucks.

The tank's only 14-gallon, but gas is $2.29+ a gallon here in most parts of the city. Gak! ... and they say it's a coincidence that the pipeline will be fixed and prices will fall right after labor day...

You're right -- snorkels suck! They're only good for "coasting" on the top for brief periods. At least the ones they had for rent were pretty nice: they had a special valve that drained out any water automatically.

I've never been in the water on the East Coast -- is Jersey bad from pollution or overcrowding?

yipe. i actually wondered if our prices rocketing had some ass-backwards thing to do with your pipeline break. O_O cause it's not like it SHOULD effect us, but they'll find a way to link it, just cause.

it was a 1.35 prior to this past thursday.

and jersey is evil... =_= you don't go swimming around here at all... thank god i live in NH. i can't wait to go back to school. i'm dragging someone-anyone to livermore falls or sculpted rocks to cliff dive.

Yeah, they'll find any excuse to slam people -- just like they "coincidentally" had to shut down six plants for maintenance the same period the pipeline happened to burst. :P Found a station at only $2.09 for the cheap stuff, tho.

Heh -- yeah, I can't imagine you'd give up your pristine forrested hillsides.

Wow, I have not been to Catalina since I was 15! My dad flew a Cessna back then, so I have never taken the boat there. I loved the glass bottom boat ride best.

Awesome! I always thought having one of those pontoon boats would be FANTASTIC up and down California. The helicopter ride gets you there in 15 mins, the hydrofoil express (which we took) takes about an hour, but the "standard" boat takes a whopping 2 1/2! I think it's pulled by fish or something... ;p :)

In addition to the glass bottom boats, they have these big "half-submarines", much like the ones at Disneyland -- the portholes are fully underwater, and give a good view. They even have night tours with super-bright spotlight beams underwater, so you can prowl around the kelp beds. We still haven't tried those yet...

Jah, it was a refreshingly unique place. Comically enough, she knew the importers from Shiva in Santa Monica as well.
