As yet another proof that I'm poorly socialized, I have difficulty sharing the emotional trauma of the faceless masses. Intellectualization can put a damper on your social whirl, but sometimes it helps you clean up and get on with life ( Read more... )

Various news sources have said that there were reports of suspicious activities made to the Brit authorities minutes before things started blowing up; also, that Al-Q. has posted a website claiming thingy, that they did it, responsibility.

... I should go to sleep soon. :/

I must be a callus and emotionally-crippled individual, too.

My reaction to the news on the radio:
"Oh, that's too bad... ... Of course they claimed responsibility! Hello! If I had a terrorist organization, I'd claim responsibility. It's a good, low-budget way to get taken seriously. Claim everything."

I heard on at least two different channels that two different groups have claimed responsibility. It all has the aire of a junior high school nerd trying to impress a pretty girl.

"The London bombings? Oh...yeah...I did that too."

Nobody should need to question my knowledge of junior high school nerds trying to impress pretty girls.

Honestly I'm a little disappointed with terrorism. If you're going to bomb a city, do it the day BEFORE the Olympic committee makes its decision, not after dumbshit. The problem with terrorism is that its never actually accomplished anything...ever! Wow, you killed some people. So does alcoholism. When you overtake liver disease I'll start paying attention.

Ya know, earlier this week I was talking to the other editors about the fact that my publisher will be showing off our site to some VIPs today. I told them to go start some fires so we could have some hard news. I meant locally, not in London.

And what does it mean that when Bax told me about the bombings at 5-ish this morning that my first (unspoken) thought was "Gosh, I hope the British Museum is ok"?

That's what I was hoping it meant. Thanks!

I once spent an extremely pleasant afternoon at the British Museum looking at the mummies, touching the Elgin Marbles and marveling that the Rosetta Stone is! just! sitting! there! Where anyone can touch it! (It would also make a wicked coffee table.) I would hate to see that spot bombed, if for no other reason than I want to go back again sometime.

Whereas I would simply like to go once. It's near the top on the "Before I Die" list.
