So a question for the Triumph masses:

We cannot move over the old posts to the new Triumph website, something with how it was coded and it doesn't go with the new site, or something technical.

So I am going to be going through the tavern posts and taking the more "important ones" and  "archiving"them

I can't decide how to do it

should i make it so it ( Read more... )

not knowing much about the new system, I guess that sounds about right if it's based on different tech than the current one.

as for archiving... my official vote is "whatever is easiest for you to accomplish!". My unofficial vote would be to see if VooDooMon can export the contents to something that woudl be easy to work with rather than copy/paste from the website (again all in an effort to make it easy to archive... especially as it would also be helpful to archive a lot of the Rules posts too).

Yeah I really like the idea of "story mode" for the archive posts, but wonder about the time.

Are you going to keep the old content available, still? even if it isn't the active website, can people go look at the old one if they want?

Just make it like a tavern thread, that way no one will grumble that you edited their statements.

And I don't know how feasible this idea is, but would screen captures of the images work, so you don't have to do as much cutting and pasting?

No once we have the new website the old one (and the old posts) will be unavailable.

Huh.

That's sad. I'd suggest having whoever your tech guy is do a backup of whatever DB the posts are all stored in - that way someone could (at some future point) reinstate them.

Come to think of it, I'm really not sure what could explain why they can't be preserved, given that DB tech almost always allows exporting.

Who is the tech guy, btw?

I'd say leave it like it was. A story style is more appealing to me, but in managing various LJ communities I've learned that many people get squicked when a mod interferes with content.

Either way sounds fine to me
Also, I'd be happy to help, and I've gotten to be decently fast at typing with my four years of college :)

Also, my father just reminded me- it might be easier to just save each page. In firefox, you could even save each thread page as a pdf. That would save copy and pasting even. Just go to each thread page and go to file and chose save as whatever
