Listening to the books on tape or CD really helps as well--Fred's the dominant twin, something I didn't notice until we relistened to GoF. Aren't finding little details in books you've read countless times wonderful? S'like finding little jewels in an otherwise ordinary place.
I bet Mandrakes will feature somehow. I also think that it's no accident that Bowman Wright, inventor of the Golden Snitch, lived in Godric's Hollow. I think he's a Potter ancestor, even if the big thing is that Harry's Godric's Heir rather than Wright's.
And LMFAO, "pop your clogs" is a perfectly normal expression here. :)
I keep noticing stuff like that and forgetting to make a note. I'm reading the UK editions for the first time, and WHEE. So fun. But I keep going - "was that in the American edition? I don't remember it, but maybe I just didn't notice." It's making me kind of crazy, to the point where I think I'll have to sit down with both editions and a highlighter sometime :P

Getting into canon research state of mind... :-)
The Magical Worlds of Harry Potter is a book by David Colbert. It's kind of thrown together, but it goes over a lot of the mythology references. It also credits Encyclopedia Potterica for a few of the name meanings. (which I thought was cool as it's an *old* fandom site.) I'd pick it up from the library, I haven't decided if I want to own a copy of it yet.... It's a good poolside read if anything.
Of course... he's flawed in some of his comments. He's convinced that Harry will become an animagus.
