The only thing I have to say on today's Prop 8 decision is "Well, duh. Of course equal protection under the law extends to gay people" But one of my favorite bloggers, Fred Clark, had something more to say:

Indeed.

Speaking of good news, Washington's house will vote on universal marriage rights tomorrow, and the bill is expected to pass easily-and be signed by Gov. Gregiore. It already passed the state Senate last week (this was considered the major roadblock, but enough Republicans and conservative Democrats signed on at the last minute). Implementation will probably get blocked for a few months by challenges, but pretty happy for my state at the moment.

Yep, in the legislature at least. Final passage on the bill today with a 55-43 vote.

However, in Washington, bills that have been signed by the governor can still be put to referendum, which may be a harder goal to pass. Then again, even with the very red east side of the state, we did manage on upholding domestic partnerships on referendum a few years ago...
