Hey guys? Every thought of deleting your facebook account, because they have gotten a little bit creepy? Well they just got creepier:

Rebroadcasted from the EFF:

Six things about Facebook's new "Connections" feature

1. Facebook will not let you share any of this information without using Connections. You cannot opt-out of Connections. If you refuse to ( Read more... )

Saw that article from the EFF a couple days ago too. I've tried to be pretty vigilant about updating my FB settings given their horrible tendency to automatically opt people into their "new features" erm...datamining, but this latest stuff is a bit too far.

I've been on FB since 2004, back when it was the Ivies + a few other private colleges, and am not deleting my profile yet, but I've blanked it except friends-only contact info.

I was also dismayed to see that FB had authorized an app to access my profile that I had never used or been prompted to allow, being an interface to a political blog that I regularly check. No, I hadn't clicked "like" on anything on that site or shared an article through FB or anything. WTF, guys?

Anyway, glad you are helping publicize this...somehow, it doesn't seem to be getting even the amount of attention that Newsfeed did back when FB was academic-only.

I really don't understand why more people aren't bothered by it. maybe it is true that modern internet users don't care about privacy.

When Facebook, Google, and Amazon merge and take over the world, I reserve the right to say I told you so.

Yes, but you will only be able to buy them from the Google Books store and read them on your really kick-ass (but continually monitored) Android phone.
