Well, it’s happened.  Our wonderful (now former) Pastor Stephen, is now in the service of Colwell Baptist Church on the Isle of Wight. We are now Senior Pastor-less, although we are not rudderless, as we’re being masterfully kept in line by Martin and Ken, our Associate Pastors. They will be keeping a firm hand on the Ampthill Baptist ChurchRead more... )

friends, church

"Mad as a box of frogs would be another."

That's an expression I've never heard before!
I love it!

BTW: Baptists are the same the world over, I think.

Mad as a box of frogs is something I use all the time - it's a very good phrase. Mad as cheese is another one. I have no idea why cheese is mad... but that's Britain for you!

I know there are some Baptist congregations that are quite serious and staid. I think some people have trouble with how boisterous we are.

Ain't it a blessing then that the volume knob and the goodness knob are two different knobs as far as God's opinion is concerned?
Having your heart in the right place is far more important that being "serious" all the time.
;D

Sadly I can't go, I'm on rotas at our church that day. Besides *ALL* of us pitching up at a small church on the IOW is a bit much.

They are this big: http://www.flickr.com/photos/leightonian/4351253876/

Ampthill Baptist Church all at sea... Sounds like one of titles in a book series about a group of crazy Christians... Hmmm ;-)

This is pretty funny, reading it from my pagan point of view. One of the things I miss about church is that it's orderly, and it's a way of getting people together of the same religion without, well, fights breaking out. Managing a coven is like herding cats, too - here you are saying the same thing about a church! Not that the two are necessarily analogous or the problems or reasons behind them are similar (though maybe they are?), but the similarities are interesting!

I think faith groups have a surprising lot of similarities!
