Yay! Minear doesn't suck!

I have finally been proven wrong about Joss being the only Firefly writer that can construct a good show. I really enjoyed last night's episode, and not just because it was more introduction to some of the key players in the show. I think the bandits did fly a bit off with that intent paradisacorbasi October 26 2002, 21:42:17 UTC
to wait Mal's death out and then come back and steal the ship anyway, but Zoe woke up, said "turn the damn shuttles around," and before they could wait long enough for Mal to keel over and die of his wound, the rest of his crew came back and thus made it too much like a fair fight for them to consider it worth the trouble -- so they took off again.

That's my guess, anyway.

What I got was that they wanted to show that the band of ruffians were opportunists that had "a bit of honor" and that they really did just detach and fly away for good.

It would have been MUCH more believable (and quite a bit more entertaining) had they had a shot inside the bandit's ship scanning for lifeforms from afar... and them scanning when shuttles docked.

Bandit Crew Member 1: "One life sign still... but he shouldn't last much longer... wait... I'm reading 2... 4... no... EIGHT life signs aboard the vessel!"

Bandit Captain: "Hmm... looks like either the guy's shuttles came back, or he was somehow able to hide 8 people good enough for us not to find em. Either way, it's not worth the trouble. Set a new course..."
