Oh, what a very intriguing idea. I shall have to check out those other stories you mention! I really like this glimpse of Book's mysterious past and how his mind works. Nicely done.

Thank you!

Book doesn't really get enough love in fandom, especially given how much of his life was never defined for us.

Oh, you know the 'verse is in a sad state when Faith is the saner of the two!

It just occurred to me, when I wrote Skin (the one in this 'verse from Buffy's POV) that Buffy had a tendency to just repress and move on, do what she had to, repress and move on, whereas Faith was the one who'd actually been forced to sit down and navel-gaze and grow. Multiply that by another five hundred years? =)

And because Buffy has such a great track record of dealing with change! ;)

I actually blame Giles more than either Wesley or Buffy for Faith's fall from grace. The man was seriously old enough and experienced enough to know better-- as we see from the glimpses of backstory that occasionally showed up-- but clearly chose to blind and limit himself most of the time in Sunnydale, probably to avoid further screwing up. And we all know where that got him.

Wesley, on the other hand, was a baby Watcher at that point with issues of his own, and had been set up by Travers to fail before he ever got there. Had the Wesley who showed up already had the kind of experience he had by season 4 of Angel, I think the rest of B:tVS might have been a much more interesting show. He might have saved Buffy from her own issues, too, before she got so wounded and hardened.

If I ever do a sequel, I'll definitely have Faith seek out the Firefly crew to talk about the Shepherd. All of those broken-yet-strong people would be just her kind of folks. =)
