The day after Alex left, I had something like a nervous breakdown. There was one little anomaly -- trivial, in fact -- that I blew out of proportion. My fear was put to rest at the end of the month, but I was still feeling the after effects

So that's why you went off your meds. Alicia obviously didn't take psych, where you learn that anxiety disorders and depression are all biochemical. At least you're feeling better and you were able to go at least a little while without the meds. It's never too good to be dependent on them.
