The search for saffron

Jan 06, 2005 00:49

So, my job for today, helping to prepare for the annual Midieval Feast at church, was to pick up some last minute groceries. It was a fairly short and largely reasonable list.
  • 20 lb of rice
  • gallon of pears
  • gallon of sweet red wine
  • 2 packets of saffron
  • if possible, edible sandalwood powder

A credit card minimum is against the agreement they signed with the credit card company, if it's Visa or MC. If it's a big store I would harass them about it, because personally I don't like being discriminated against for never carrying cash. (Paper money, that's like, so eighties.) For tiny local businesses, I let it slide.

Yeah, that's the thing. Little local packy, so I wouldn't even care, if it werent' for the fact that I wouldn't have needed to be buying another $5 bottle of wine if they'd sold me what I wanted in the first place.
