And now a fic rec and some random rambling

Someone (I no longer remember who and it's pages back on my flist) had posted a link to this narration thingy about the Weeping Angels by Jack, which prompted conversation about what would happen if they got their hands on Jack. And someone linked to the fic below, which explores that exact possibility. Very cool take on what would happen in ( Read more... )

I agree. I've always taken that line at face value. I read a few fics where it had been twisted into a statement about Jack and Ianto's relationship (which were brilliant fics and very well explained and justified), but looking at Ianto's body language and his tone and expression, I think it really does mean that Jack is just a big cheat when it comes to perverted children's games. :) It's nice to find hidden meaning in random dialogue and I've done it myself, but imo, this wasn't really meant to be interpreted as anything other than a funny, fond jab at Jack by Ianto.

I agree. I LIKE fic if it can make a really compelling twisty story out of this or any little line in canon, though. (Like the Retcon fic... I think you know the one, probably. I can't remember the title!)

But I think Ianto means Jack cheats at Naked Hide-and-Seek so he gets to see Ianto naked first. Or something. :D

*and off to read rec!*

Yes! I think the Retcon fic may actually be what prompted me to analyze the hell out of that exchange in the first place. I loved the fic, and it made perfect sense. It just did make me question that one line.

But I think Ianto means Jack cheats at Naked Hide-and-Seek so he gets to see Ianto naked first. Or something. :D

Or uses his wrist strap to locate him. Or something. *g*

Yes, this.

And we know Jack's a huge FLIRT, so I mean, people can read it however they want to (though it's clear later that they're kind of exclusive).

I've always read fond exasperation from that line. Probably because I have the feeling that one of the reasons he stayed with Jack was because Jack made him laugh. Not in a bad way, but that Jack brings him some lightness.

I think you've got a point there. Ianto definitely needs that. I think he brings some of the same to Jack though too.

Oh, definitely. They both need it in their lives.
