I had a hard time figuring out "slash" at first, too--I'm with you about its apparent gore factor, and I was fascinated to learn its true origins.
And while I think I've got a pretty open mind, I'm not sure I'm going to be able to delve into Billville--though I did follow the links to find out what the hell it meant. Sorry. I love them both, but it starts to get into, I dunno, "Seva" (Severus/Minerva) or "Gridville" (Hagrid/Neville) or even "Filchis" (Filch and his pussy), and that's all just south of Squickville for me. But more power to those for whom it works!
And hey, somebody does need to bring Slash himself into the picture, if only because Patsfan can't possibly be alone....
