LeakyCon

The best rate I've found so far that's actually *in* Boston (most Expedia and Orbitz searches turned up only things waaay out of Boston for under $100/night) is at the Ramada Inn, 800 Morrissey Boulevard. They have a shuttle that runs to the JFK/UMass T station, and from there it's a straight shot to ... I presume Park Street is the best place to ( Read more... )

I started to reply to this before. I'd typed out the whole sentence, "I'm not even sure how to find out." And then I deleted it and hit the leakycon tag, because somewhere off in a dusty corner of my brain, I have the idea that somebody told me how to find out about hostel possibilities. But I don't remember who, much less how.

I should try using some basic net skills and try at least a Google search.

Thanks for the nudge!

So I Googled and learned that there is one. Just $40/night, and it's fairly close to the con hotel. I'm not sure I can cope with being in a 12m2 room with five other people though, even friends, never mind strangers. Still something to consider though.

When I have stayed in hostels my interaction with others in the room was minimal, after all I only slept and changed there. Many have lockers- bring your own lock or buy one from them- peace of mind re possessions. MInd you I kept my camera, wallet and passport with me when I left for the day, no one really wants to steal my knickers!

How about getting rommies? That cheapens it up a bit.

Maybe. I'm a horrible roomie though. (Just ask Patsfan. Seriously, the snoring is ridiculous.)

My room is full.=( Living with Snape is...messy.

He hogs the closet, the desk, and makes the bathroom filthy by leaving greasy stubble in the sink and the tub.

Droxy is hyper...LOL

I can just picture it!

Are you doing the spreadsheet thing this time around?

Park Street is actually not the nearest station to the Park Plaza--you'd want the Arlington stop on the Green Line.

Also the neighborhood around 800 Morrissey Blvd is not going to be awesome, but if there's a shuttle bus to/from the T it should be okay. I wouldn't walk around alone there at night though. And to be honest I would exercise caution while waiting at that T station for the train or the shuttle. If you stay at that hotel, taking a cab back at the end of the night might be a better option.

Thanks for the tips. I should probably have included the stuff about the Morrissey neighborhood. I'm used to it, since I went to and worked at UMB for years, but others obviously wouldn't be. And thanks for the tip on the T stop. That whole section of Boston is an area I only really know from underground, passing through to other places. LOL

yes, you want the Arlington T stop.

Also -- check the YWCA; they are not too far away and some years ago they kept a few short-term (< 1 week) rooms for rent. Very bare-bones but comfortable and safe.
