Legislators vote to defeat same-sex marriage ban

"A proposed constitutional ban on same-sex marriage was swiftly defeated today by a joint session of the Legislature by a vote of 45 to 151, eliminating any chance of getting it on the ballot in November 2008. The measure needed at least 50 votes to advance."

Way to go, Massachusetts!

I honestly don't know why it was ever even an issue with the government, honestly. I understand, and can accept religions not accepting it as they are like little clubs, but isn't that kind of the point of separation of Church and State? The government makes the big rules people have to live by, and churches get to be exclusive clubs accepting who they want?

I'm proud to say PA is as old fashioned puritan as it gets-lol. Will we ever grow up and get with human rights? I certainly hope so because I know a few people who would like to at least have the union recognized here.

PA even went to such extremes to eliminate common law marriages a few years ago so even if you are het. you can't claim marriage-then again that could just be Mr. Rendell looking for more money through lisences...that's a tough choice (scratches chin pensively)

I have no hopes at all for same-sex marriage; we can't even get rid of the damn LCB that legislates when and where we can buy alcohol! *sigh*

What's PA like on that? CT blew my mind when we first moved here. You could buy beer and wine in the grocery store (at the time you couldn't in MA, though you can now), but no alcohol purchases after 9pm and none on Sunday. MA has loosened up a lot since then, but CT hasn't changed.

LoL I remember my freshman year in TN-we walked into walmart at 2 am (because we could, and it that made it cool) and were able to buy fake wine like BoonesFarm or Arbor Mist and all the popular beers. It was mind boggling to see it at gas stations, too.

In PA, Beer at a distributor, wine or liquor at a state controlled store-but not past five until friday and sunday it's closed...

Thank the gods!! Everyone should have the right to experience the misery bliss that is marriage: gay straight or trapazoidally sexual.

*giggles* Glad you like! It's from a couple years back, when Alyson Hannigan was playing in When Harry Met Sally on stage in London!
