I went through a bit of a mental reshuffling this week. I feel a lot better emotionally than I did last week, but overall I'm still feeling... lost and confused.
Well, I can tell you that one of my professors at SCAD, Paul Hudson, used to do it. It might be falling the wayside with technology, though. He used to tell us stories about how he had to boil skulls in a pot to then clay over it with all the muscles. :X
BESIDES, you could always try and get into Hopkins! Never know :D
I think I know which program he might have done because I think either U.Illinois or U.Georgia tend to focus on sculpture and stuff. (Unless you're talking about forensics, then I have no idea. XD That'd be cool too! I love seeing sculptors work at building a dinosaur's face or something from the bone work.)
;A; Oh my God, SIX PEOPLE though?! I mean, I checked Toronto (my next favorite) and that at least takes 20 out of maybe 50 applicants. ;A; But SIX? *SOB*
I think that would be a fantastically interesting field to enter. People find it hard to believe that one can be proficient in sciences and the arts - and I can imagine with your skills in both, you would be a wonderful candidate! Some part of me wishes I had known a bit more about medical illustration earlier, before I set off on my path. Although, I could always go the way of Netter... :P
One thing I was wondering, though I don't know if it exactly fits with med illustration, is whether that sort of program would delve into animating medical conditions/processes. I know that's an area I'm always seeking more 3D exploded or rotating models to explain things.
*nod* I looked more into it and all the kids seem just like me. They grew up thinking that art and science can never be combined, and a degree in medical illustration was like angels singing from the heavens when they found it. xD;; (Also, someone specifically mentioned being an anime artist!)
That's also medical illustration nowadays. :) A lot of it has shifted from textbook drawings to doing media work for big companies like Merck and Bristol Meyer Squibb. It's cool stuff, although almost all the programs require that you majored in science (as opposed to art) for your undergrad.
Hey there are more anime artist hidden in those students than you think! mkage on my flist is actually a second year in UofT right now and she's is partly in the fandom! I think I am the first one though hahahahaha (stupid thing to be proud of)
LOL That was fast. XDfirebird_88April 25 2010, 22:38:54 UTC
:DDD That makes me super happy.
I actually didn't get into art for anime (my grandpa started teaching me watercolor when I was really young, but I failed at that :/) but it'd be great to bond with art kids that actually like anime as opposed to artists that shun anime and think it sucks. OTZ
XDDD; I think the girl that you mentioned at U.Toronto is probably the one that I picked out because she mentioned anime in her biology. She's Asian, right?
And it's a fine thing to be proud of. ^_-
Also, I'm guessing since you're speaking in past tense, you already graduated? O.o Or are you still there?
I don't really have a clue what this job actually entails, BUT. ^^; I used to have an art teacher who went to med school and then dropped out or something and pursued art instead, but a lot of his artwork was medically inspired. Maybe you'd like his stuff. :) Here's his site: http://www.jasonshorr.com/home.htm
It's like the most horrible layout ever, but if you go to "Site Menu" - "Gallery", you can see some of his stuff. Enjoy!
Well, if you decide to make a change, you certainly won't be the only one. I was originally planning to look for a job in the field of biology, but between the fact that I never made it into a biology PhD program and that jobs like that are hard to find even when there are good economic times... I decided to start training in medical laboratory technology. I still get disappointed sometimes that I couldn't make it as a biologist, but med lab technician is a good profession as well in my opinion.
Aw, thank you hon. That's great advice if I ever heard it. :) I think my whole life I've always let other people make big decisions for me, so it's a bit scary to start now (but better now than never?)

I hate it when my self-doubt kicks in.
