the grape can bring it out, cant it!
its so hard to have discussions, i find - especially with passionate folks when one is equally passionate. i have an issue with this as i always personalize things and take offense.
hope it all blows over and that you will be gentle with yourself!

Yep the personalising things is a problem. I suppose I find it hard not to always relate things to how it means I should live my life etc. And I really can't stand anyone being at all jugemental about anyone else. I will be gentle with myself....its easier after one's got over the morning after!

Oh dear I know that feeling, I'm sorry the evening went that way, I have a very clear image of how that conversation must have gone and I think it probably feels a lot worse than it was.
And to be honest his comment was a bit out of line and I imagine that he might be feeling a bit embarrased about it through his hangover.
Hope there was no lasting damage

Funnily enough I don't think he would think his remarrk was out of line because his philosophy means that he thinks that all we do is based on our background....there's no choice in action, no point in trying to make the world better because it all just is what it is and won't change, there is no reality except the present so that is the only arena one can live in - one just does what one does and it makes little difference. Its probably a remarkably freeing and could be hedonistic way to live but even for someone like me who tries to stay very present in situations its not a philosophy I can really go with. I do think we make a contribution to the world we live in, I believe in political action and all of that stuff. For Ismael however, I now think, the remark carried no judgement as was merely a statement ( ... )
