I do think there is a lot of snobbery that disdains anything popular - whether it's dance, singing, genre fiction, etc. The critics are sometimes so up themselves you wonder how they live at all.

The critics dissed the ebullient joy of the Carry On films for years.
I do sometimes wonder what planet they live on - fortunately, we are not obliged to agree with them !
