I Know What You Did Last Year...Another Random Meme

As some of you may know, Moth2Fic recently posted a meme. I thought Moth2Fic's answers were illuminating, so I thought I would have a bash myself.

It's good to remember minori_k.

Isn't it? In choosing the pictures, I went through a lot more of her art than I could showcase. It's just such a shame that the 'known issue' is currently preventing people from enjoying everything she posted to AO3.

I really hope it's fixed soon.

Oh I didn't know about the AO3 issue... how long ago did it happen?
Thank goodness Minori's lovely work is still available somewhere... I sorely miss her too, not just her art, but her as a person, I had the privilege of meeting her in London over five years ago...

I remember her coming over, but I was too unwell at the time to cope with meeting anybody.

That's why I feel it's such a shame that so much of her art is currently unavailable - she was such an enthusiastic and friendly part of Pros - and so appreciative of anyone who liked her pictures.

The issue has been going on for some time, because Minori_k's Lj is marked 'adult content' AO3 is displaying an 18+ sign instead of her pictures. It's doing it to me too, the work around is to go in and temporarily turn off the adult content warning - but of course Minori can't do that.

My great hope is that AO3 will fix the bug and all her pictures will be restored.

No, I don't think she can have used photobucket for everything, because some of her pics are running into the same trouble as mine, and mine are on Lj - so I have some hope that the 'known issue' will someday be fixed and her pics will unlock when mine do.

AO3 told me they can't even mark the account as 'in memoriam' because no one has provided them with proof of Minori's passing.

And I just thought, since Minori's AO3 account is mostly just showing placeholders, it would be lovely to have some of Minori's art pop up in our feeds again.

It was lovely looking at all her art again, I tried to pick a picture to showcase every strand of her drawings.

I really agree! If you look at my South Coast you can see the pics she did for that - full size and glorious. And no, she didn't use photobucket for everything but she did for mine! I really hope it all gets sorted out. They couldn't take my word for it that she had passed away, but as I said, I did add a note to the account so that nobody would expect a reply if they tried to contact her about the pics. I have another few saved on my computer - things I downloaded from LJ I think. They're so different and original - using that style for Pros really is very transformative work!

I'm hopeful that all her work is still in the original host accounts and when the 'age bar' thing is eventually worked out it will all magically re-appear on AO3.

I will check out the artwork for 'South Coast'. I've got a load of Pros stories put by that I want to read, including the whole of last year's BB, it's going to take an age to work through them all - but I don't think having so much BB put aside to enjoy is a bad thing!

After I've finished working my way through Stargate SG1, if it's still available, I'm going to try Stargate Atlantis - I've now met a number of people active in that fandom and it appears to be producing some great fanfic :0)

I don't usually see slash in canon but neither do I not see it. I see a bunch of stuff that is consistent with either a gen or a slash interpretation, and I tend to be equally happy with either type of fic. (Though slash fiction has meant a lot to me when working through certain conflicts in my own life.)

I think one of the impulses underlying slash is a desire to preserve the relationship between the characters. People organize their lives to stay with their romantic partners; they rarely do that to stay with their friends. People move around and friendships are the casualties. Linking the characters romantically is a way of keeping them from losing each other.

That said, it's hard not to see intentional subtext in the fact that, in The Nowhere Affair, we are told that Napoleon's ideal match within Thrush is Girl!Illya.

I'm not sure I'm qualified to judge - I liked the whole of season three, there's clearly something wrong with me!

Linking the characters romantically is a way of keeping them from losing each other.

I suppose a lot depends on how close you see the characters' friendship - it's not unknown for best mates to stay together long after a disappointing spouse has departed, or to see each other through widowhood.

That being said, I think there's a lot in what you say. Plus, I think a lot of fanfic is good old fashioned melodrama, the sort that fuelled Bette Davis' and Joan Crawford's careers, and the traditional vehicle for that is romance.

Myself, I only get narked by being told what I 'have' to see - I have absolutely no problem with folk telling me what they 'do' see, and will happily read stories that cover all sorts of territory. For me a good story is what counts, not whether it chimes with my particular view of the show.
