Miami, Florida

Eric was waiting in the locker room when Ryan arrived to work in the morning. He was sitting on the bench and looked like a living, breathing thunder storm.

“Morning.” Ryan greeted and went to his locker.
“How was your seminar?”
“Interesting.”
“Good lectures?”
“Mostly.”
“Good buffet?”
“Yep.”
“Good sex?”

Ryan paused for a moment, but went back to changing his clothes.
“Thompson saw you leaving with that guy.”
“So?”
“So? What do you mean So? Just because we`re on a break, it doesn’t mean you can pick up some random guy!”
“Delko.” Ryan tried to control his voice, even thought he felt like screaming. “We’re not on a break, we broke up. To be more precise, you dumped me.”
“I didn’t mean totally, I wanted some space.”
“Your exact words were “It’s over”. That doesn’t mean a break, it means breaking up. And that means you have nothing to say about my sexlife. Or my life at all. Get it?”

Las Vegas, Nevada
Two days later

Warrick opened the door and let Nick in.

“Welcome back, man. How was the seminar?”
“You got a beer?” Nick groaned and headed to the kitchen.
“Yeah. Are you okay? You look like hell.”
Nick twisted the cap off and took a long swig. “I screwed up. Royally.”
Warrick waited but he didn’t continue. “And ?”
“And Greg kicked me out.”
“Okay, okay…. Start from the beginning.”

Nick slouched down on the living room couch and took a deep breath. “We had a fight on the phone. On the last night of the seminar.”
“What about?”
“The usual. My family, coming out, whole nine yards. It got pretty ugly. I went to the hotel bar and got drunk.”
“So what? It’s not the first time you and Sanders fight.”
“I ran into this local CSI who was on the same lessons, we started talking. He had just had a nasty break-up.”
“I think I know where this is going…..”
“Yeah.” Nick grunted. “We spend the night together.”
“And Sanders found out.”
“I told him. As soon as I got back. I went to his place, I told him everything and he kicked me out.”
“Why the hell did you tell him?”
“I thought that if I told him myself he would forgive me.”
“Are you insane?”
“Probably…..”
“What are you gonna do now?”
“I don’t know.”
“Do you want him back?”
“Of course I want him back! I don’t even know why I…. did that.”
“Well, there’s no way you can undo it, so you better give him some time.”

---------------------------------------------

“Hey, man.” Warrick lifted his eyes from his newspaper. Nick came into the break room and poured himself some coffee. “You look like hell.”

“Thanks.” Nick said and dumped a generous amount of sugar to his mug.
“How’s the Sanders-front?”
“No idea. I haven’t seen him for four days. He called in sick.”
“He can’t keep doing that forever.”
“Hopefully.”

“Hey, guys.” Catherine walked in with Sara in tow. “I got news. We’re going to be two CSIs short. Gil`s still on his lecturing gig and Greg’s away. Leading us to the main news.” She paused.

“Spit it out.” Sara leaned back in his chair.
“Greg send in his resignation.” The announcement was followed by a stunned silence. Catherina continued. “He’s got enough vacation days saved to cover the period of notice, so he’s not coming back at all.”
“Where is he going?” Sara asked.

“He said some old college buddy got him a nice position in some research lab.” Catherine shrugged. “I`m just as surprised as everyone else. I thought he liked it here.”

Warrick gave Nick a sideway glance. The Texan was staring at Catherine like he expected her to laugh and say it was just a joke.

---------------------------------------------

Nick didn’t  need to ring Greg`s doorbell. The door to his apartment was open and the hallway was full of cardboard boxes. Greg noticed him and slammed the box he was carrying to the floor.

“What do you want?”
“I…. What are you doing?”
“What does it look like? I’m moving.”
“Why? Because of me?”
“Because I want to be closer to my new job.” Greg shrugged.
“So you just leave everything because you got a great job offer? I don’t buy it. You’re doing it because of what I did.”
“That’s none of your business anymore.”
“Greg…. You can’t just give up on us.”
“I didn’t. You did. You gave up on us when you went to bed with a another guy.”
“Can’t we-”
“No we can’t. I went along with you when you wanted to keep our thing secret. And when you let everyone at work assume you had a new woman every few months. Even Warrick wouldn’t know, if he hand caught us in the act!”
“Greg, would you just listen to me?”
“No. I listened to you too much.” Greg looked like he was ready cry. “At least now I can start surfing again.”
“Surfing?”
“Didn’t Catherine tell you? I’m leaving Vegas.”
“You can’t!”
“I can.”
“Where are you going?”
“Miami.” Greg let out an uncontrollable giggle. “Isn’t that ironic? That place is where this mess started and the same place offers the solution.”
“Leaving is not a solution!”

“It is. And If you’re not gonna help me carry this stuff to the truck, you better leave.”
