“What was that?” Warrick followed Nick to the garage.
“What was what? There was nothing.”
“You turned bright red, started stuttering and ran away. What the hell did Sanders do this time?”
“Nothing.”
“Nothing? He asked if you wanted to have breakfast after the shift and you almost started hyperventilating.”
“There’s just some nasty mental associations there.”
“About breakfast?”
“About breakfast with Greg!” Nick was turning red again.
“What’s so nasty about that? Bad table manners?”
“No, he….. I don’t want to talk about it!”

----------------------------------

Nick had managed to lull himself into false sense on security when he was abducted from the hallway. He was walking past the supply closet and a hand reached out and pulled him in.

“Greg? What the hell are you doing?” He stuttered.

Greg locked the door. “You’ve been avoiding me so I decided to take action.”
“You took action at the diner. And that’s why we better keep our distance.”
“Distance?” Greg leaned closer and pushed him against the wall. “You loved it.”
“I didn’t!”
“Nicky, you can lie all you want, but the evidence doesn’t lie. Your evidence made a very sticky spot to your pants.”
“I…. I’m really not sure if I like this new improved you.”
“I’m not that different. We used to flirt all the time and I waited for you to make a move.”
“I told you I’m-”
“Not into guys, I know. But I don’t believe you.”
“Well, it’s true, believe it or not-”
“Nicky, I’m leaning against you and you’re hard. Totally straight little cowboys don’t do that with their co-workers.”
“That’s…. that’s a natural reaction, it’s not-”

Greg cut him off again. This time by kissing him. Nick didn’t even have time to think about it, he just responded. He could hear Greg giggling into the kiss, obviously satisfied with the reaction. Nick’s hands moved on their own and found a nice spot on Greg’s waist.

“You know….” Greg grinned when he finally pulled back. “You’re really not convincing me.”
“I didn’t mean….” Nick panted. “I’m….I’m not….”
“Nick. Your reaction made it very clear that I know you better than you do.” Greg’s face turned serious. “When was the last time you were out on a date?”
“It’s been a while.”
“And when was the last time you were actually happy with someone?”
“It’s been….”
“A while? Trust me, if you can be happy with someone, take it. If you hang on to some imaginary picture of an ideal mate, you’re gonna be pretty lonely for the rest of your life.”
“You think….” Nick leaned his head back against the wall.
“Do I think we could be happy? Hell yeah.” Greg grinned. “If you wanna try. I know I’m not exactly the most subtle person around but I’m not gonna force you to try anything if you really don’t want to.”

“I… I want to try. I think.”
“Good.” Greg smirked, and looked quite relived. “You didn’t answer me before. When  I asked about going to get breakfast. We can just eat this time.”
“Sounds good, but….” Nick considered his words. “You got tomorrow off, right?”
“Yeah.”
“I want to take you out. I mean... on a date. Good Texas boy always buys his dame a dinner and never makes a pass on the first date.”
“You came in your pants when we were eating breakfast, I think we can count that as the first date.”
“Yeah, but…. I don’t wan to rush into… It, I mean it’s my….”
“First time with a guy? I like that in a man.” Greg giggled. “And don’t worry, you’re in good hands.”
“And feet.” Nick smirked.
“Those too.

----------------------------------

“Did you start on the car already?” Nick marched to the garage in his overalls.

“Yeah.” Warrick peeked from behind the vehicle. “I’ve gone through the trunk, you can take the backseat.”
“Okay.” Nick pulled on his gloves one.
Warrick gave him a long look. “I know I asked this when we started the shift, but I gotta ask this again. What’s going on with you?”

“What do you mean?”
“When we came in you looked like you were waiting for the end of the world, and now come in with that creepy half grin….”
“What do you mean creepy?”
“Forget it. What are you so happy about?”
Nick considered whether or not tell him, but he couldn’t keep it to himself. “I got a date.”

“Finally!” Warrick exclaimed. “How long has it been since that waitress whatever-her-name-was?”
“Cherry. Eight months ago.”
“That`s great, man.” Warrick paused. “Wait a minute….. You were away maybe twenty minutes, how did you have time to ask somebody out?”
“Well….”
“It’s somebody from the lab, isn’t it?”

“Maybe. And I’m not telling you anything more until I’m sure about it myself.”
Nick smirked.
