“Are you okay?” Charlie asked and sat down next to Don. They were the only ones
in the living room. Faint sounds from David and Ian’s bedroom were the only indi-
cators that they weren’t alone.

“Not really. I’m stuck in the middle of nowhere and my relationship is going
to the dogs.”
“You’re exaggerating. We’re just few hours from home.”
“So you think my thing with Martin is doomed.”
“I didn’t say that. It’s after eleven, and everything was fine when I saw you
at one in the afternoon. What happened after that?”
“You mean before I heard my baby brother and my niece were missing? Not much.”
“But something did happen.” Charlie interpreted.
“I got into a fight with Martin over the phone.”
“About what?”

“This.” Don pulled his sleeve up to show him the watch. “I wanted to give it
back. It was just too awkward to take expensive gifts from a guy. Almost like…”
“Like what? Like you were a paid man? Don, sometimes a piece of chalk is just
a piece of chalk. Or a watch, in this case. And he knows you would sleep with
him with or without the gifts.”
“Charlie-”
“I mean you’re so eager he hardly gets through the door before you-”
“Chuck! You’ve been talking to him again, haven’t you?”
“He’s my friend, of course I hear the best bits. And don’t try to change the
topic. How did it end?”
“What?”
“The fight.”

“I hung up. I was gonna call him later and apologise, but then Colby told
that you were gone and I forgot it.” Don slammed his palm against the
table. “And now I can’t call him, and I have no idea if he tries to call
me. He’s leaving tomorrow.”

“Don, I’ve know that guy for years. He can’t stay mad at anyone, he’s just not
wired that way. He probably doest even remember the whole thing.”
“He does, because I didn’t call him. That’s our routine. I screw up, I call
him, I apologise and we make up.”
“I know.”
“Does he tell you everything that happens between us?”
“Pretty much. And don’t worry. He’ll understand the situation.” Suddenly
Charlie started laughing.

“What?”
“It’s just so funny….” Charlie couldn’t finish his sentence. A fit of laughter
took over again. “Usually your girlfriend is the one who wait s for you to call.
And then realises you gave her a wrong number….” Another laughter attack
followed.

“I’ve never been that bad.” Don almost blushed.
“You have. I could name quite a few examples….”
“Stop that. Don’t you need to go check on the baby? And Granger.”
“They’re both asleep.”
“Shouldn’t you join them?”
“Are you trying to get rid of me?”
“Yeah.”
“Ask nicely.”
“Chuck, go before I use your hair as a mop.”

“See, you can ask nicely when you try.” Charlie grinned. “Go to sleep. Maybe
we can go home tomorrow.”
“You think so?”
“I don’t know, it depend on how well their operations goes. But we’re all here,
and we’re all well, so it could be a lot worse.”
“Yeah.”
“Good night.” Charlie grinned and headed upstairs.

--------------------------------------

“Sammyyyy….”
“Dean.”
“What?”
“Stop whining.”
“Sammyyyy…..”
“It’s Sam. And I warned you about that burger joint, so you can suffer all you
want. It’s your own fault.”
“There was nothing wrong with that place….”
“When the cook is an over-the-hill hippie, who has half a joint drooping from
his lip, he probably doesn’t put too much weight on hygiene issues.”
“You’re cruel….. I`m here suffering and you`re so cruel.....”
“I’m working.” Sam turned the laptop so that Dean Cold see the screen. “Look
at this.”

“I`m not getting up.” Dean groaned from his bed.
“It`s right there, lift your head.”
“I’m not lifting my head.”

“You’re such a pain in the ass… The local police was called to Eppes`s house,
their’s a record of that. A report of the disappearance was left by detective
Eve Carson. Now comes the punch line.”
“What?”
“It was removed. No reason, no nothing.”
“Meaning what?”
“I don’t know.”
“Can’t I even get a quarter for the bed?” Dean asked hopefully.
“I remember the last time you fooled around with a massaging bed, and it wasn’t
a pretty sight. You can go to the bathroom and massage yourself if you want.
Again.”

“It’s not the same!”
“It’s cheaper.”
“Sammyyyyy…..”
“What?”
“At least rub my tummy…..”

Sam sighed and decided to give up.
“Fine. But any more whining and you`re on your own.”

--------------------------------------

David tried to get his breath even. Ian was currently lying on top of him, sweaty
body against another. He had wanted to talk to Ian about the whole disappearance
act, but when they got to their bedroom Ian had pinned him against the wall. David
had given up all attempts on a serious conversation.

“Ian?”
“Ready for another round?” Ian grinned.
“Ask me again in thirty minutes. But…. I wanted to talk to you. About today.”
“Okay.”
“Why did you want to come here? I mean, you shouldn’t be in any danger like
Charlie or-”
“David.” Ian cut his rambling. “Charlie’s helpless, Helen’s my niece, and you
were in danger too. Of course I’m here. There is no other alternatives.”
“Well, technically she’s not your niece-”
“You know what I mean. I’m her uncle, end of story.”
“I know, and that whole protecting thing….”
“Choose you words carefully…” Ian gave him a mock glare.
“I just like that side of you.”
