“So?” Greg asked as soon as he walked in.
“So what?”
“So, how was your interview?”
“Pretty good. The PD is short on staff.”
“You don’t mind going back to that?”
“Not really. And there will be two new positions in the crime lab next year.”
“Okay…. You wanna eat?” Greg asked.
“Here or do you want to go out?”
“Up to you. You had a big day, you can choose.”
“I saw a pizza place nearby.”
“Was there a really mean looking Sicilian mama looking out of the window?”
“Yeah.”
“I know that place. We used to go there when I was a kid.” Greg pulled off
his coat and headed to the bedroom. “That woman was scary then and she’s
still scary.”
“How’s the food?”
“The best Italian you’ll ever eat.”
“I thought they just do pizza.” Nick shrugged.
“There’s a lot more to Italian food than just pizza. My poor little cowboy,
all lost in the mean city….”
“I lived in Vegas, San Francisco can’t be any meaner than that.”
“Have you seen the drag queens yet?”
“No….”
“Just wait….” Greg chuckled and returned in a fresh shirt. “Ready to go?”

“Okay, I admit. This is good.” Nick mumbled with his mouth full of penne
all' arrabbiata.
”Told you.” Greg gloated.
”So we’ve talked about my day. How was yours?”
”Eventful. I got a date offer.”
“You did?”
“Yeah.”
“Ho was it?”
“Just a guy who works in administration.”
“What did you tell him?”
“No.” Greg took a sip from his glass. “He’s a nice guy, but I’m not gonna
jump into something with a guy I hardly know.”
“How bout a guy you already know?”
“What do you mean?”
“Would you go on a date with me?”
“I don’t know, I`ve never been on a date with you.”
“You want to correct that?”
Greg leaned back in his chair. “Why do you bring that up now?”
“Well…. I don’t want to wait until so long that somebody else does it
before I do.”
“I guess there’s some kind of logic there…. So is this it?”
“Is this what?”
“The date.”
“I’m not sure. I thought this was dinner.”
“You wanna play it like a date?”
“If you want to.” Nick grinned.
“In that case…. You already screwed up.”
“What do you mean?”
“You didn’t pull out my chair when we sat down.” Greg smirked.
“You’re not a girl.”
“Doesn’t mean I wouldn’t appreciate the gesture.

Greg opened the door and walked in.
“So, how was our date?”
“I liked it.” Nick smirked.
“Me too.” Greg poured water to the coffee maker. “You want coffee?”
“We just had coffee with our dessert. How can you want coffee again?”
Greg gave him a long look.
“Okay, that was a dumb question.”
“It was….” Greg agreed. “You know what’s missing here?”
“What?”
“We missed the whole first date escort-your-date-to-the-door thing.”
“We were both coming to the same place.”
“So what?” Greg grabbed Nick by the collar and pulled him to the front
door.
“Now what?”
“Now you try to get a good night kiss, I relent, then you try to cop
a field and I say no and you start rhyming me against the door….” Greg
paused to shook his head. “Sorry, my imagination took over.”
“So I`ll get a goodnight kiss, but nothing else?”
“Yep.” Greg pulled him close and pressed their lips together. Nick leaned
in and pushed their bodies against the door. “Nick….”
“Yeah…?” Nick asked as clearly as he could without removing his lips from
Greg’s.
“This “just friends" thing didn’t last very long”……” Greg chuckled.
“I don’t mind, I can make new friends….”
Finally Greg pulled away. “That was pretty good “Good night”. So… good night.”
He headed to the bedroom, but turned and came back again. “One more thing.”
He kissed Nick one more time. “That’s just in case.”
“In case of what?”
“Just in case the first “good night kiss” didn’t do the trick. I need my sleep.”
