CSI Miami Main List Chapter 1 “Morning.” Ryan walked in and Eric gave him a suspicious glance. Ryan sounded unusually cheerful.
“What the hell did you do last night?”
“I slept.”
“With who?”
“With nobody.” Ryan opened his locker and started changing his clothes.
“Right…. I know that tone. You got laid.”
“Delko, most people don’t jump into bed on the first date. That’s your style.”
“Hey!”
“Can you deny that?”
“You make it sound like a bad thing!”
“I didn’t say that. Some people just have other goals in dating then going through half the staff at their workplace.”
“Wolfe-”
“Delko.” Ryan interrupted. “I don’t want to talk about this with you. You’ve changed and ready to go, so you have no reason to stay here.”
-------------------------------------------
“Hey.” Boa Vista greeted and came into the break room. “When did you come back?”
“Ten minutes ago. I left my samples with Valera, so I got a lot of time in my hands.”
“And I got some gossip.” She grinned. “Chris called me.”
“Why?”
“He just wanted to thank me. Apparently his big date was a success.”
“Big date?”
“With Ryan.”
“You mean he actually agreed to do it?”
“Yeah, they went out last night after work.”
“That explains a lot. He came in looking like he got some.”
“It was just a dinner.” Natalia grinned. “Chris is a gentleman.”
“I don’t wanna hear….. And I thought getting some company would loosen him up.”
“What do you mean?”
“He came in with a big grin and went from cheerful to hostile in two minutes.”
She let out a frustrated sigh. “What did you say this time?”
“I didn’t say anything!”
“Well, you better say something now and fix it.” She paused and tried to come up with suitable word. “And… I’m not sure how to say this.
“Say it.”
“I know you’re not a bigot, but you have a tendency to let your mouth operate without your brain, so….. Make sure you don’t make it worse.”
“What? You think I would out him in front of the whole lab?”
“No, but you usually blab out something and you don’t even realise that you hurt somebody. Dating a guy is hard enough when you’re a woman. If you’re a guy who has to work with cops, it’s even harder.”
-------------------------------------------
Eric knocked on the doorframe. Ryan lifted his eyes from the tyre prints he had been examining.
“Still working on that hit and run?”
“What does it look like?”
“Wolfe, can stop that for a minute? I’m not here for a bashing session.”
“What does that mean?”
“Nat told me about your date with Chris.”
Ryan straightened his back and gave him a challenging glare.
“And?”
“And I would have said the same things anyway. That’s how my mind operates. I didn’t mean anything.”
“Okay.”
“Okay?”
“Okay. You can go back to work now.”
“Are we okay?”
“Just fine.”
“So….. How was it?”
“How was what?”
“Your date. I would wheedle the details out of you anyway.”
“If you want dirty details, ask Cooper. He has a lot of stories, but I’m pretty sure ninety percent of his partners have been inflatable.”
“Don’t forget his porn collection. I think he’s borrowed a lot of his stories from his videos.”
“Probably.” Ryan gave him a small grin.
The truce lasted four days.
-------------------------------------------
Eric took their drinks from the bartender and headed back to their table. He zigzagged his way through the full dance floor. Natalia was waiting at the table, looking impatient.
“When I’m done with this, we’re gonna dance.” She proclaimed as she accepted her drink. “I haven’t been here in ages.” Her eyes wandered over Eric’s shoulder.
“What?”
“Take a look.”
Eric turned to look at the couples on the dance floor and saw what Natalia had seen. Chris was dancing to the pulsating beat, rubbing himself against another man. The guy moved and now his face was visible.
“Did you know Ryan likes dancing?” Natalia sounded sincerely surprised.
“Can you call that dancing? That looks more like mating with you clothes on.”
“I you were a pot, I would call you black.” Boa Vista giggled. “That’s like a PG version of what you usually do.”
“That’s different.”
“Eric.”
“I’ll behave.” He took a long gulp from his drink and leaned back against the backrest. His eyes kept going back to the couple on the dance floor. Ryan had ditched his work clothes and was now obviously off duty. Eric wasn’t sure if he had ever seen Ryan’s arms completely bare, outside of the locker-room. The pale skin was covered with a light layer of sweat, and seemed to glow under the scarce lights.
“You’re staring.” Natalia commented.
“I’m not. And is that really allowed?”
“It is.”
“It’s a wonder the bouncer hasn’t kicked them out.”
“It’s none of your business.”
“Your buddy’s practically humping him in the middle of a bar.”
“And it’s still none of your business.”
Ryan concentrated on sipping his drink. Then his self-control gave up. Chris’s hand wandered down Ryan’s back and settled on his butt. That was the last straw.
He got up and marched to the dance floor. He grabbed Ryan by the arm and pulled him away from Chris.
“We’re gonna talk right now.”
“Delko-”
Eric didn’t give him time to react. He dragged him to the back of the bar and through the back door to the alley behind the building.
“What the hell are you doing?” Ryan steamed and pulled his hand away from Eric’s grasp.
“No, what are you doing? You’re practically making out with that guy!”
“And so what?” Ryan almost screamed. “We’re both free adults. What we do is none of your business!”
“It is when you’re rubbing my face in it!”
“Rubbing your face in it? You’ve been doing a lot more with Boa Vista than I’ve done with Chris and I haven’t complained. Even though that will probably end in some loud break up in front of the whole lab.”
“What does that mean?”
“It means I know how your relationships go. Half of Miami knows that.”
“Watch it.”
“It’s weird that the STD clinic hasn’t named a wing after you yet. You’re in no position to judge me.”
“I am!”
“For the last time: Stay out of this. It`s pretty obvious you can`t handle the whole gay thing, but whatever you think about it, you better keep it to yourself.”
“Wolfe-”
“I`m warning you. Get your act together and behave professionally. If you don’t, I`ll make an official complaint about you.”
“Will you listen to me? I’m not a homophobe!”
“Well that’s what it sounds like!” Ryan ran his hand through his hair. “Stay away from me and my life. We’re co-workers, not friends.”
Ryan marched back inside before Eric could say anything more.
