I'm pretty sure I had something to say to this, but your writing style has completely blown me out of the water.

I can admit that I stared in open mouthed shock at Naruto Chapter 429, wondering just how he was going to take it. This version is probably the only way we'll see what would have happened if Pein hadn't decided to pull a Hiroshima on Konoha.

Also, mature!Naruto rocks.

Aha, see, I kind of wanted to write this because I felt like no one was writing anything about the whole Naruto v. Pein thing (or, rather, the possible psychological side of it; I leave the punch-kick-bang to Kishimoto). I didn't really expect, um, the KONOHA-NUKE. So that put me into TOTAL 'what-if'-world, but ah wells.

I'm glad people liked that aspect of the story. To be honest with you, while my intention was to try to mature him a bit, some of the maturity was, I think, inadvertent. I'm really not good at writing immature characters because the stories I like to write require characters to, well, pick up on emotional nuances/etc. [Regardless, glad you liked. ♥ And thank you for the compliment on my style. f^^]

I spent a whole five minutes just staring at the page. I think he even took out the monument in that blast. The animators are gonna have some fun with it.

It's only too bad that at this rate, it's going to take them 372726363 years to get there. :[ Or anywhere.

Oh, this is exquisite. I love the style; poetic and almost whimsical, so simple while saying a lot. In retrospect the piece feels both longer and shorter to me than it is ( ... )

Oh, wow, thank you for this lovely review. Yeah, I rather like Pein's loopy not-entirely-making-sense aspect in canon, but I . . . ahahah, draw the line at really dumb puns. XD [It's more the somewhat off-in-space/another plane of reality mindset that fascinates me. I like Itachi for same.]

I feel bad that Kishi seems to have forgotten about pregnant Kurenai, because I sure haven't. ;-; I've been wondering this whole invasion what happened to her and the kid. It'd be cool if the kid is a girl, yeah. New generation = newer ideas about kunoichi's roles. LET US HOPE. [Srsly, what was with that flower arranging stuff in the anime? XD;]

In my mind, the only person Pein is really open with is Konan. Or, rather, she's the only one who understands him. Writing him from anyone else's PoV and still getting a point across kinda is ... TRICKY. XD Ahahaha. Again, thank you so much.

Heh, I actually like bad puns and I still get embarrassed for Konan for having to be seen with the guy sometimes XD Granted I prefer for the puns to be intentionally bad, which I somehow don't think the puns in question are ( ... )

I'd be more embarrassed if she didn't always enable all the crazy! Like, oohweee, I see you are nuking the village in a TTLY IMMATURE WAY AND ALL, NAGATO, BUT INSTEAD OF SAYING THAT, I WILL JUST WORRY ABOUT YOUR SAFETY. And thus not help your emotional growth at all by not disapproving much. [But I actually find it quite sweet in this weird way... it's just enabling as all hell!] I often wonder how all the PAIN stuff reads in Japanese, actually.

(Was there something anime-specific about the flower-arranging? All I remember of it from the manga is that the girls had to know how to do "girl stuff" for undercover missions-- because people who arrange flowers for a living would totally have the build and hands of people who kill stuff for a living, I guess-- and even that seemed like a convenient way to set up a flower metaphor.)That's what I was referring to. I don't actually remember the specifics, but I was like, lol, ( ... )

Okay, it is just me or is there a sneaky NaruSaku tinge to this fic? Or maybe I have shipper tunnel vision. Relevant point here would be- I liiiiike how you handled their interaction.

Juxtoposing the end of Pein's life with the birth of Kurenai's baby is a neat idea, and one you didn't tell me about before. It's a nice touch.

The fact that Naruto assumes it's Sasuke at first is really heartbreaking. And it's a natural assumption given the way Ibiki and Inochi talk about the prisoner. It's a neat device, since really you can put Sasuke into this role of extremely dangerous captured enemy, and one that would (one would hope :/ ) ask to see Naruto. Actually, it's double-heartbreaking because chances are, Sasuke would never ask to see Naruto, it's too natural for him to just pretend that he wants nothing to do with Naruto. So in essence, that's a situation where Pein reaches out to Naruto more than Sasuke does. Geeeez, poor Naruto. (But a niiice angle. :D ( ... )

Hmm, I suppose there MIGHT be a tinge. I did intend it to be gen, but one can always read into subtext, I guess, and one can see things in their friendship. *g*

Thank you for the long review, and I'm glad you enjoyed it (and sat through me whining about this story until it was :FFFF done).
