[The room is clean, in every sense of the word. As decrepit as the place is, Manfred von Karma knows how to keep a house, and he's ensured that it is free of any electronic bugs or traps - although he's starting to realise that such things wouldn't work in a place like this. Either way, it's his role to keep an eye on the others - the ones who know ( Read more... )

They are so far indestructible and they shock you periodically if you do not use them often enough. [Yeah, he thinks that's a little appropriate but as far as anyone can tell, he's as cold as ice.]

What has it told you? That she is a far better prosecutor than I?

No. Let it be said that you are both failures. [And here there is something akin to a sigh, because, really, he didn't want it to have to come to this - not to mention any failure on Miles' and Franziska's part reflects badly on this.] And you will both have to deal with the consequences of your individual choices.

[No--no, no, no. He didn't want to put Franziska in any sort of danger, and--he should have known better.]

You will not, nor will you ever succeed in your ridiculous, irrational plans. The truth always makes itself known, and your mistakes will cost you dearly.

Hah. I could be concerned, if I was capable of making mistakes.

You will continue acting your grand bravado, I'm sure, but you will fail in the end, and I will be there to see it happen.

In general, yes--people do tend to think what they will. Perhaps you should read a bit of Locke if you could stomach it long enough. To think that one's will would forever bind the wills of others is beyond foolish.

What's more, you will also face the consequences of your actions. That's most certain.

No. I do not claim to be invincible.

A lack of invincibility implies that one can never be harmed or defeated; an aspect of the ideal the human mind sees as 'perfection'--something you have striven for your entire life.

Therefore, you've just contradicted yourself.

Invincible in the sense that the only one allowed to defeat me is death - and even that not for a while yet, although I will not deny I am only getting older.

[Really? Really? Apologies Manfred, but your former student is going to get some laughter out of that.]
