Period film disappointments.

Why does Keira Knightley keep making period films? She's saturating the market! I'm so sick of seeing her stupid horse face in all the upcoming costume dramas. I mean COME ON. I'm SICK TO DEATH of her. And she's in all the movies I want to see! BOOOOOOOO. I wish ANYONE else would be in those roles. Even a bloody American if that's the only way ( Read more... )

UGGGH KEIRA. I don't even dislike her as much as other people do, but GIVE IT A REST, GIRL. She has such a modern face, why does she keep doing this to us?

I really want to see Elizabeth: The Golden Age, but I still haven't seen the first film... and I have no money anyway. BUT CLIVE. Oh, I'll see anything for him ;D.

What do you think of this? I'm for it, considering college has eaten my life.

Oh, I watched As You Like It last night! Very fun, and Romola was wonderful, of course =D.

I don't like Kiera, either!! She seems to think she's the next Kate Winslet. *growl* At least Kate has a figure...

Did you see in the article, completing her 18th century attire with a billowing gown and bustle?!!??! Bustle?!!? *sobsobsob*

I saw Elizabeth for the same reason I will rent The Golden Age when Netflix gets it -- the costumes. ;-) Other than that, I don't have very high expectations, and after reading your review!

BTW -- I didn't know Tom Hollander and Samantha Morton were in TGA!!! Yay!

i used to despise kiera, but as she's grown and matured (in her acting skills of course), she's kind of grown on me. who knows? she might be amazing ten years down the road.

I think (subconsciously) I really liked this film because I keep thinking about it. But only certain scenes. The whole film was kind of a mess but specific scenes (and specific performances) were really excellent. And like you said, the gorgeousness + moments of goosebumps (Elizabeth on the cliffe watching the ships burn? Chills) redeem the film.

The part I thought was REALLY bad was the battle scene with Elizabeth in the ridiculous long red wig.

SERIOUSLY. And the fact that she was riding the horse like a man. I noticed this immediately and it kind of put me off for the entire scene. Even if she is the Queen of England, I don't think she would have done that. Or did she? Is it documented that Elizabeth didn't ride with both legs to one side?

I totally agree with you - I thought the romance between Abbie Cornish and Clive Owen had more chemistry than Cate and Clive!

Reading your review had made me want to see it again. Bad.

oh yeah. I'm doing my senior humanities project on Elizabeth's myth and the defeat of the Spanish Armada...and the battle scene? WEIRD. even for some of the things I've come across in my research! but I guess it just further proves how her myth has gotten more and more flamboyant over the ages. And filmmakers, of course, would take advantage of that.
