American accents really are unfortunate. I am sitting in a cafe, cringing every time one of this group of six Americans says anything... true it's partially because of content (the kind of conversation that would make me cringe even in America), but also just how harsh our accent is, how sort of shapeless and brash. It's hard to describe exactly,

I had a similiar experience in Seoul, South Korea! Their Pizza Hut was SO nice, and it even had wireless internet (that may just be my small-town-girl-ness, though? There is NO public wireless internet in Maine =P).
American accents are rather unfortunate, I love the British accent so much more *sigh*.
P.S. Last chance to request postcards or UK goods from me!
Just wanted to make sure you got my Doctor Who email =D.
Glad your foot is slowly getting better, even if you still feel more comfortable with the boot on at least it is healing =)!
Love you! Keep soaking in England! *hugs*

And I completely agree about the accent thing - I'm interning for a Shakespeare company at the present, and some of the actors are British. I am SOOOO jealous, you have no idea (well, you probably do, but you know what I mean!).

I get what you're saying! I get asked a lot if I'm Canadian or British, and I think it's because I just 'soften the edges' of American English when I speak. (I've had to learn how to enunciate- I grew up in east Texas! *l*)
Which cities are you visiting while you're across the pond? And may I add myself to the list of people receiving postcards? (I collect them :-) )
Take care of yourself (and your poor foot!) and have fun trying out all the different kinds of food!

I'm so tempted to modify my accent to make it sound not so obviously American... I got someone thinking I was Australian, which is a step, not sure if it's in the right direction towards genteel, but oh well :P.
I was in London for about 3 weeks, now I'm in Oxford for another week or so. I can definitely send you a postcard--I have ones left over from London or can send you one from here if you have a preference :). Just e-mail me your address to maggie [[at]] fine - eyes dot net and I'll pop one into the mail for you :)!
