Friends, Romans, Countrymen

I just saw Amazing Grace again with my parents, and it's just as good the second time.

And now for fandom nonsense...( ROME! )

One warning about "Rome" in case you do end up watching it: it has a LOT of sex, nudity, profanity and violence. I was uncomfortable watching those scenes at first but the reality is they actually do add to the experience of ROME as it really was--the good, the bad and the ugly. Especially those last two :P.

I hope you do decide to watch it and like it because then I will have finally converted YOU to a show and not visa-versa! You've even gotten my to download the first episode of Primeval, though I've not watched it yet. By the time you are done with me I will have no time for anything except TV shows! Not that I'm complaining ;-).

Have fun at Amazing Grace! It's actually quite funny so don't be afraid to laugh :-).

Hmm, okay, thanks for the warning. I may track down the first ep later.

You got me to watch Big Love S1 (did I ever even tell you?)! I liked it, I'm just not crazy/fangirly about it =P. And you introduced me to a couple minis, like Daniel Deronda and The Way We Live Now.

By the time you are done with me I will have no time for anything except TV shows! Not that I'm complaining ;-).
Mwuahahaha =D! And tell me what you think of Primeval when you watch it.

It's actually quite funny so don't be afraid to laugh :-).
Heh, okay! I'm about to leave to see it, I'll let you know how I liked it when I get back =D.

You watched "Big Love"? No, you never told me! Cool. I'm glad you liked it, even if you didn't go completely insane over it! I don't know what it is that makes me so obsessed with it... maybe the great acting? Or the allure of having 3 great dynamic women in the main roles? Dunno :). Who is your favourite character and what is your favourite pairing? Just out of curiosity.

If you can handle the sex/nudity in "Big Love" combined with the violence/gore in 300 then I think you will be able to handle "Rome". I just wanted to warn you because when it first starts out you are like WTF is this? But then you get hooked on the story and you don't care so much or really even notice it. Just don't like watch it with your parents or anything. That would be awkward!

I guess my favourite thing about "Rome" is that it is gritty and realistic--not idealized (either the settings or the characters). There aren't 'good' characters and 'bad' characters like on so many US shows--everyone is just trying to survive and look out for their own interests. It's so cut throat and wonderful :P. I don't know if I described that well... it also has pretty costumes and it's a kick ass period of history :-). Oh and James Purefoy ♥! One warning, though: it has a LOT of sex and nudity. I think HBO has some sort of rule that their shows must have two sex scenes and at least 3 shots of full frontal nudity (male or female) every episode. It made me uncomfortable at first, but honestly as the series goes on you become used to it and it just adds to the reality factor of the show. I hope that doesn't dissuade you from watching it, as I said the sex/nudity/violence/profanity are all part of the plot and integral to the show itself, not just added in for whatever reason...

Violence, gore, and debauchery are just sort of mandatory when it comes to Rome, aren't they?

EXACTLY! It just wouldn't be "Rome" without those :-P. But it's always good to be warned about that kind of thing so you don't sit down to watch it with your grandmother or something, haha!

OH GOD OCTAVIAN IS SO CREEPY. 'I will beat you because it gives me sexual pleasure?' Bzuh?! This guy must have a major Oedipus complex or some such thing. What happened to his likableness? He was one of my favorite characters on the show. Now, I totally agree with you - HATE HIM. He's one of the only characters I dislike on the show (besides Gaia *stabs her*). I thought he would be portrayed much differently, you know because of that little thing called the Pax Romana ( ... )

No I love discussing it! Babble all you like. I don't have anyone to talk about "Rome" with because I don't really want my Mom to watch it *heh* and my sister is still on season one! I remembered vaguely that you watched "Rome" so I kind of pounced on the opportunity to be fangirlish ( ... )

P.S. You might like to read the forums for Rome over at Television Without Pity (http://televisionwithoutpity.com). I spent like 2 hours reading all the posts for the last episode and it was really interesting and FUNNY! So just in case you can't get enough...

Oooh! Congratulations on winning the t-shirt. Atia rocks.

Rome hasn't started over here yet *pouts*, so I'm desperately downloading the episodes from *nudge nudge wink wink*. Servillia DIES!!??? Howwhatwherewhen? I can't believe that. Do you mind me asking how it happens? I'm very shocked.

Go Atia, she rules at life!

I just saw a trailer for Amazing Grace, it looks so wonderful.

Yay, I'm so glad you like Atia, too! She's the best! Most people I've talked to hate her so it's nice to know you are a fellow Atia supporter ( ... )
