I found your (very interesting!) blog while searching for information on the San Diego County Canary Club. Do you happen to know if the club still meets when its webpage says it does? That is, the second Sunday of each month at 1:00 p.m. at the La Mesa Recreation Center? And do you know about any of the other local bird clubs? Most of their webpages (if they have them) are very out of date.
Also, I hope you don't mind if I add you to my friendslist.
You probably haven't heard of UCSD's archaeology program because it's part of the Anthropology Department. But we do have four archaeology professors, working in Jordan, Turkey, Mesoamerica, and Peru.
The piece about the blackbirds and the pictures of the woman with the gull stealing her sandwich were just too funny! Favorite quote "And when all else fails and dignity is not a factor, McDermott said, the bird will shoo if you bark like a dog." (Although as a footnote, I believe that these folks are lucky that they are not being attacked by mockingbirds who are not easily deterred by sham barking!)

I am not certain about Canary Club information, but I know from whom I can confirm meeting times/dates.
These are the avicultural groups with webpages of which I know.
Non sequitur: I really should wake up; I did not even realize that UCSD has an archaeology program!
