I never noticed how much I use those buttons until I no longer had them. The needle up/down button, the slidey thing that controls maximum speed, the stop-and-stich-on-the-spot button, the automatic needle threader that actually works... I am spoiled.
I think sometimes just poking around helps. I also dislodged a fluff ball, so maybe that was part of the problem, getting in there and screwing up the moving parts.

I tried to sleep in but was awoken to the sound of my roommate and her boyfriend getting it on. >:( So I spent the morning watching TV and putting pins in stuff.
I'm super happy I accidentally fixed the machine, though. I was not looking forward to spending money either on repairs or getting a new one just yet.
