Elrond's Obi

Aug 17, 2007 10:01

I did this yesterday and it's nearly finished. Not movie-based, but sort of movie inspired, designed to be similar to the grey sash Elrond wears in the "Welcome to Rivendell, Frodo Baggins" scene. I bought this fabric in Tokyo and it was painfully expensive. Expensive meaning it was sold per 10 cm rather than meter/yard, making this sash almost ( Read more... )

omfg this needs to be done now, costume photos, bff elrond, costuming

That's _very_ neat looking. (Man, I love the designs you put together, elf-damsel)

The sash is a gorgeous focal point.

Urgh, LJ is not emailing my comments. WTF.

But, thanks! I like my fancy sash. The embroidery doesn't show up as well as I'd like it to (either in pics or in person), so the sash should kick it up a bit. I like my costumes ornate. ;)

Hey and here's a question you might be able to answer- you know of any good online retailers for this kind of fabric? I did some google searching yesterday, but every "fabric" store turned out to just be selling kimonos.

I used to use Goodorient, but sadly they seem to have stopped selling fabric (and it seemed to mostly be domestic jaquards rather than the more 'authentic' expensive stuff ;_; )

I'll likely be doing more sourcing in the next couple months for a pair of costumes I'm considering, so I'll post up any sites I find. ^__^

Yes, please! I'm having such a hard time finding interesting fabric these days. Even the fabric stores in Japan I went to were just selling boring old printed cotton (this stuff came from a sword store of all places...), and online isn't looking much better.

The robe really is pink (more pink than it should be for movie accuracy, but it's so hard to find colors that are even close), but not that pink. The pictures make it look even pinker, especially that sleeve CU. It looks better in fluorescent light. I bought the fabric two years ago, started making the robe last year, and just this month saw a new color in this silk that would've been better. D'oh. Less pink, more beige.

I'm pretty happy with the sash, though, and its colors should match the fabric I have for another costume (pale green). Yay for mix-n-match!

At the fabricland out here everything is half price right now, but I don't know if they do the same sales in the east... worth checking out, though? What are you doing for Maedhros?

I still need to think of what I want to wear for Halloween... Not this Elrond costume. I can't wear anything more than polyester out on Halloween or it'll get wrecked for sure.

Woohoo! I'll be dressed up as Elrond, Celebrian, Feanor, and possibly a few others... I haven't decided on what I'm taking yet (or what I can finish before next week). I have all the fabric and stuff for Lily Evans, so I might still chuck that together.

Pink Elrond looks fantastic. I was just thinking that the fabric for the sash not only matches the robe really nicely, but could probably go with some other things really well, too. It's lovely fabric.

I've been watching the mailbox feverishly. Not that it helps, but I'm very anxious to see the huge, heavy Fingon costume! Yay!

Can't wait to see you at D*Con!

Fingon should be arriving this week! We'll need to book a time together for you to try it on so I can finish the snaps. Hmm... Thursday night?

It got here today!!! I am so excited! On the whole, it fits fantastically, I think. And my god, may I please just say thank you thank you thank you? It's BEAUTIFUL! There is one small place where the intitial snap is that sort of puckers, but when we do the snaps I think it will be easily moved. Thursday night sounds ideal. After supper? Sounds like it'll be early anyway. And Thursday will be perfect because D won't be there yet, so the room will be all quiet and empty and conducive to productivity and snaps. :D

YAY!!!

Thursday night will be great for snaps, shouldn't take more than about 20 minutes. Anything else need fixing? Let me know if it does and I'll bring the stuff to do it.
