Is anybody out here gluten free and/or dairy free? I'm making some dietery changes as sort of an experiment and I'd love to compare notes. Right now I'm compiling a list of the better tasting dairy free/gluten free options out there and feedback would be useful.

dairy free, food, fitness and health, gluten free

Both my wife and daughter are 100% dairy-free. Anything I (we) can do to help, let us know.

At this point I'm not sure if I'm going to go completely dairy free or if I may just eliminate cow dairy. I'm concerned about the hormone issue in cow's milk so goat milk is a good alternative.

If your family has recommendations for good cheese replacements, I'd be interested in hearing them. Thanks for your help.

This is what we use when we're making cheeseburgers or grilled cheese or whatever calls for cheddar. I can't tell the difference once it's melted.

there are a lot of online websites for gluten free and plenty of places now offer options...each option varies because of personal taste...dairy free as well...i'm lucky where i am in canada i have a baker who's husband is both and she prepares so much stuff that you wouldn't even know didn't include either...

no matter what products people told me were better i found testing out things till i got to used to stuff that wouldn't make me ill...

i will tell you...once you cut out this kind of thing...it does make a huge difference in how you feel...good luck and happy experimenting...

Oh, believe me, I've been all over the websites already. You are right, there are some excellent sites out there.

I plan on testing lots of products but personal feedback is good to use as a starting point. If 3 people say a certain brand was or wasn't good, that would be useful information for me.

Yes, I've heard it makes a big difference. This is more about feeling better than weight loss.

Thanks!

I can't eat any gluten or gums and our family has been non-dairy before--also, dairy contains some inflammatory compounds that I try to avoid. I use coconut milk and almond milk (I make my own almond milk) and I've been learning about making things like nut-milk kefir recently as well.

Do you see any difference in the milks for cooking? I'm using soy milk with very good results.

Also not sure if I'm going to go completely dairy free or just switch to non cow dairy due to the hormones.

Have you tried making your own coconut milk from unsweetened shredded coconut? It's a bit time consuming, but tastes so much better than canned (and no risk of gums or emulsifiers).

My sister has celiac disease so she's totally gluten-free. Gets most of her stuff at Whole Foods.
I don't have to avoid it so far (knock wood) but I do find an over-abundance can be . . . unpleasant. I'm too much of a cheese freak to give up dairy totally, but I have switched to almond milk.
You can find a bunch of gluten free recipes here and many other gluten free/dairy free boards on Pinterest.

I found amazing stuff at Fairway and my local health food stores.

I may actually switch to goat and sheep dairy instead of cows to avoid the hormone issue. But I have found some dairy free "cheese" that i actually like.

Thanks for the help.

I really should be dairy free but can't remember all the hidden dairy stuff. if you like cream in your coffee, try coconut milk

I may just switch to goats milk because that would eliminate the hormone issue that exists with cows milk.

I've been very happy so far with the Silk soy milk as a replacement.
