Bummed

Tonight's concert was supposed to be Queensryche opening for The Scorpions. We are still seeing The Scorpions tonight; however, Queenryche won't be opening for anybody. Seems the boys have forgotten how to play nice together. On June 20th, the band fired Geoff Tate but still want to tour under the Queensryche name. So does Geoff. Now the long legal ( Read more... )

Well, sonofabitch. I'm glad I got to see them when I did.

Yeah and see that bothers me too. It's all being done on the sly. No big announcement. It's not on Queensryche's website as of yesterday. In fact, their tour date for today is still listed. I think the whole band has forgotten their fans and that is very bad indeed.

Heh. I suspect our versions of what an epic 80's musical dance-off would consist of would vary greatly.

To that end, I'll leave you with this:

Well, that sucks. I've been reading about one of my private pleasures -- the various permutations of Yes -- and the dueling egos and crazinesses over the past forty-odd years of the band's history, and just shaking my head a lot.

It's sad when egos get in the way of good music making.

Could be worse: one founding member of the Cro-Mags took a knife to the rest of the band... http://www.brooklynvegan.com/archives/2012/07/harley_flanagan.html

Supposedly a knife is involved with the fight that Geoff Tate had with his fellow band members though he denies it. But oy, things do get out of hand sometimes.

This bothers me. I've been a fan of the 'ryche since 1987, and I always thought they were above the Dokken-esque LSD (Lead Singer's Disease).

I was bummed when DeGarmo left; he was definitely one of the creative minds in the band and his absence was felt immediately.

So this means what, now? Michael Wilton, Eddie Jackson, and Scott Rockenfield tour as a trio calling themselves "Queensryche"?

Sorry. Without DeGarmo *and* Tate, it would be like Kiss w/out the makeup -- just another band.

It's not clear if it is lead singer's disease or not. There have been a lot of rumors on both sides and neither side is confirming anything. The remainder of the band had already form a "project band" called Rising West and along with Todd La Torre of Crimson Glory were touring and playing Queensryche material while Geoff was doing his solo stuff. Todd stated he was not going to leave Crimson Glory and this was nothing more than a side project. Now they have announced that Queensryche will continue without Geoff with Todd as their lead singer. Geoff is now suing because he claims to have written 116 of the 144 songs and has a 25% share in the band and wants to claim the name. Sounds like a hot mess all around.

I agree with you. Without DeGarmo and Tate, Queensryche isn't much of anything.
