doing the two hour thing with the kitten. We are holding steady at 84-86 grams. Grrr. I had him up to 88 grams and then he pooped.....and pooped....and pooped. It was epic and I'm glad he pooped because he hadn't in two days but now we are down to 86 grams again. At least this time I got 3 ml in him instead of just 2. Oy, time to go nap.

That's as good as a weight gain! Seriously - 86 and holding with a giant poop is good! Giant poop means stuff is WORKING in there! (Also, don't be so sure he didn't poop at all the last few days, Mama may well have just licked it right up.) 3ml is fantastic! He has an itty bitty little stomach!!! Keep going! With any luck you'll get him over the hump and in a few days the every-two-hour thing will ease! That's the thing about kittens, compared to human babies - there's ALWAYS an end in sight! (hugs) You're doing GREAT!

He's currently at 88 grams, has had a second poop after the big one and is letting me give him 5-7 ml at each feeding. I also thought it was possible he pooped for mama since she is a cleaning dynamo after I'm done wit him. The thing is, I'm mostly force feeding. He's latched very weakly to the dropper but he's still aspirating at each feed and that has me worred.

Thanks!

Force feeding is totally appropriate right now! And sometimes what looks like aspiration isn't really, it's just a little bit. Keep clearing, like you are, but I've had kittens that are just sloppy nursers their whole bottle-feeding life. Drives me CRAZY! You're doing GREAT! 5-7 is BEYOND fanstastic! You're totally getting there! Don't be surprised if you end up with a feeding that's only 1-2ml if he's taking that much once in a while. In fact, if he takes that several times in a row, you can definitely wait a little longer between feeds, but probably watch the weight and get some positive reinforcement from that, first.

You're totally doing it! He may get the latch in a day or two, don't give up! (hugs)

Also, meant to say, 88 AFTER two huge poops is TOTALLY a net gain!
