My mom took me to the salon to get it done, and I imagine you're much higher on the "cool mom" scale than she was! (Not to say she wasn't a cool mom, but she didn't take her daughter to see 80s hair bands, IYKWIM.)
Heh. She wanted to do it at home herself. Then she decided she needed an extra pair of hands to do it. You know, in the scheme of things, if this is the worst she does to express herself at her age, I think we're ahead of the game. She's not smoking, drinking, doing drugs, getting pierced or having sex. in that context, dying her hair blue is no big deal. Letting her know I support her in her quest for self is however a great big hairy deal and I'm happy she let me help.
And yes, IKWYM. ;) (We're going to see Offspring and 311 a week from now and Iron Maiden on the 12th, btw)
You'll need to bleach first, since your hair is dark. We went to Ricky's. Our first choice was Jazzing jet grape semi permanent color by Clairol. It didn't take at all. The second thing we tried was Via Natural semi-permanent hair color in mood indigo (122). That worked very well and left her with blue silver hair. We had bought both becasue she liked both colors but the jet grape was blue anyway. We were both disapointed with the Clairol product.
