Do you really have to have the computer on at all times? Turning it off may actually be good for it. And especially if you're having troubles sleeping, wouldn't it be nicer if that thing was silent?

I have tinnitus, you know. It's easier for me to sleep if I have some music on. Thus, the comp is on at night. I shut it off when I go to school or work.

Did you spray the computer liberally with canned air? In some cases, it's more effective to just replace the offending fan. My old box had a northbridge fan that just won't shut up, and canned air didn't solve the problem, so I had to run to Radio Shack for an emergency chipset fan.
