All-Stars...

Can someone please explain why Ivan Rodriguez is starting ahead of Joe Mauer in the All-Star game?

Please?

.392? I can't remember the last time someone had a batting average that high at the All-Star break.

Also, can someone please explain why Francisco Liriano is not even playing in the game?!

Catcher
1 Jason Varitek, Red Sox 1,090,102
2 Ivan Rodriguez, Tigers 1,047,987
3 Joe Mauer, Twins 769,284
4 Jorge Posada, Yankees 768,280
5 A.J. Pierzynski, White Sox 622,351

Yikes. Well, to be fair, the fans vote for who they want to see. And they voted for two others above Joe. I'm actually surprised he didn't come behind Posada because of Jorge's locale.

It will all be worthless if Joe's stomach illness is an issue...

as far as Liriano is concerned...not sure if I would want him in the spotlight. He's just sneaking up on people now...let's keep him as our secret weapon.

You mean Jorge's dashing good looks, not locale, right?

And Liriano is not our secret weapon. He leads both leagues in ERA.

Remember when we went to the Twins vs Blue Jays game a few years ago and Johan K-pwned 13 Jaaaaays?

I am reminded of that when I see Liriano. I realize they're totally different pitchers but damn. Jack Morris said he wouldn't trade Liriano for any other player in baseball. And, as we all know, Jack Morris is always right.

he still continues to be a secret weapon. the "who the hell is that guy". or...the "wait...you mean that's NOT johan santana? WTF?" guy

He's brilliant...that's for sure.

I once heard Jack Morris pitched 10 innings in a game. What a machine ;)

Joe Mauer should be in the game, but he's not familiar enough to the broad spectrum of fans out there. Still, I agree, it's a pity. I also agree Liriano should be in the lineup, but again, another young player with a bright future; there ought to be other chances.

The Twins radiocasters were talking during the Saturday Brewers game about the real challenge faced by Ozzie Guillen to put together the AL lineup this year. One player per team at a minimum, with some teams deserving multiple berths and some not deserving a single one. Would you want to do it? I wouldn't.

In other news, what the $#%^ happened today? I listened to the entire game on XM Radio whilst driving home from 'up north' and the Twins' batting was *abysmal*. How does one lose so spectactularly to the worst team in baseball? Three double plays? Huh? There goes a great chance to gain a game on the Tigers... sigh.
