Hormones

My sister and I were talking about this very subject last nite. My sister is 43 and I am 30, but she says your hormones get worse in your 40s. Haha...oh what fun I have to look forward to. So...can someone tell me why 29-30 year old females hormones start going into total overdrive at this age? Mine are just crazy right now. In addition I am one ( Read more... )

Well, it depends on what type of hormones you are talking about. If you have decent levels of estrogen, and low levels of progesterone, you might experience things like fatigue, loss of sex drive, moodiness, short temper, things like that. If you have a boost in progesterone, you might fluctuate the other way. I have 'estrogen dominance' (normal estrogen levels, but almost nonexistent progesterone), and one of the things they told me is that progesterone can be affected (usually lessened) by the presence of high levels of cortisol, which is a stress hormone.

So yes, the level of stress in your life can affect your hormones in different ways, and as you enter the 'prime breeding years' your body naturally increases those hormones to make you want to breed and also to support pregnancy. It's what that ticking clock actually is - overdrive in hormones as you leave those peak years. By mid-30s, they naturally start to decline.

More than you wanted to know, huh? :)

Haha. So that's why the Bio Clock thing kicked in at this age. Sounds like I have 5 more years of dealing with that. It's so weird cause I never wanted kids before I turned 29. I didn't have that in my life plans, but I hit 29 and boy I google over every baby and kid I see. I'm even helping my little nephew with his school projects and assignments while I am up here. And I am actually really enjoying it. I never did before. Lol.

Ha. I like your perspective on it. I never got PMS before they kicked in. I know about the knowing when your period is coming - it's almost like a six sense. Lol. The Bio Clock thing is so fascinating, but also annoying at times. Haha. I have been moody too and have trouble sleeping now. I worked with this lady last year who was going through Menopause (actually she was my boss) and it was not pretty.

The thing I hate about the hormones raging is the over emotional state I have been in. Did you take anything when yours were out of control? Is there anything I can do/take to help my set of out of control hormones. Lol.

Katrina has just made everything worse!!!

I feel better about the over emotional state now since you mentioned that. I think some of my friends thought I was becoming a loose cannon for a while. I had a ton of emotional outbursts and am just 'emotional' about everything. Perhaps now I can explain my weepy/over bearing rage. Lol. No wonder my Dad does not want to get remarried...he can;t deal with emotional people at all. My parents divorced when I was 6. I'm now 30.
