Agreed, this movie is so sad!
The daughter gives birth (and her son is fine) but because the communists took over China, they locked up all the doctors because they believe anyone with higher degrees of education are Capitalists that could harm the Chinese government. So the daughter starts hemorraging because there are no professional doctors to help her :(

This movie is so freaking sad. I remember watching it when I was little and freaking out. To this day I refuse to watch it again because it's really too painful a movie experience. It's very good, though, obviously.

My family and I still make jokes about eating bread/buns and drinking water afterwards, and how you'll DIE.

I totally agree, this movie is really sad, almost too sad. I remember almost bawling like a baby when we watched this in my Humanity class.

haha! 7 buns becomes 49 buns, that's way too many buns...
