Fantastic review! It's such a darling little film. Simple and sweet. :)

And I, of course, loved this bit: Donna Murphy did a fabulous job with the voice-acting, instilling a lot of sass to the character, and her big song and dance number is belted with all of the gusto of a Broadway diva.
Gah! Looove her.

YES! to all of this! I enjoyed it much, much more than I thought I would, especially because of how low my expectations of it had been. I adored it completely - simple, sweet, and full of heart. I don't care much for the music, either (although I think the Healing Incantation is pretty), but overall - A+. On all counts. And this review is pretty flippin' perfect.

I LIKE THIS SHIP. IT'S EXCITING. zombres January 18 2011, 22:56:52 UTC
I've been wanting to Disney to get darker for AAAGES, and the creepy Vodun shadows in Princess and the Frog and the violence/aging scene in this made me SO EXCITED. Because the original stories are SO creeptastic and full of darkness and mutilation, I've always kind of lamented how white-washed the Disney adaptations are. Now, I know there's something to be said for more wholesome stories that are cheerful and everything, but there's a reason why the original stories are so dark: they TEACH children something about the world. Amongst all of the magic and TWU WUV, those stories are about how harsh and difficult and cruel the world can be, and how to react (or how NOT to react) to all of that.

THIS BANDWAGON IS SERIOUSLY THE NICEST ONE EVER. EVERYTHING IS BEAUTIFUL AND NOTHING HURTS OVER HERE, WHEEEEE.
