Oh ABSOLUTELY. Granted, I think Henriksen upstages EVERYONE in ANY movie he's ever in. He's just so goddamned intense and amazing. And that anecdote? Is one of the reasons why I love him so much. The man is a hardcore BAMF, and no mistake about that. LOL.
I'm all for vampires that don't sparkle in the sunlight, so I think I'm going to have to add Near Dark to my queue.
I will say I'm a bit surprised this only got a G rating...
I find it odd how weird the rating system was back in the day. I mean, Jaws only ever received a PG rating, and it was much bloodier than that rating should have allowed for. Strange indeed.
There are some awkward moments in terms of pacing and dialogue, but I actually think this helps the overall feel of the film, which at times assumes a very surreal dream(or nightmare)-like quality. The gore and special effects are really fabulous, especially given the budget and how old the film is -- Severen especially looks the worse for the wear by the end of the film, and yet never loses his air of jovial menace. And that infamous bar scene? KILLER, in every form of the word.
I agree
I also liked the awesome shootout
it isn't perfect, but doing a modern cowboy vampires thing with suggestions of noir (lighting and such) is great

There's a great anecdote about Henriksen on that movie listed under Fun Stuff on the IMDB: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0093605/
