All the Fishes Come Home to Roost: an American Misfit in India, by Rachel Manija Brown (rachelmanija). First reading.

I've been looking forward to reading this book for a long time--I've been reading rachelmanija's LJ with interest since I first came across it, and all the references to this memoir (her first book) were intriguing. Trouble was, my library took until ( Read more... )

Thank you so much for the lovely review! You sound like you were one of my ideal readers, all the way down to being a fan of Rachel Summers. (If you wanted to reprint or link to this in one of your other multifarious journals, I wouldn't object; I only this moment found out that this one existed.)

Yes, Project Blue Rose is getting a second printing. It can be pre-ordered now.

^_^ It more than earned a lovely review!

I think I meant to mention that I was reading it in hysteriachan, but didn't manage to work it into a post. (I think I shall, though. ^^) At this point, I kind of wish I'd found a better way to handle LJ than splitting things up so starkly--I tend not to post much on books/movies/tv other than here, because I can never quite resolve questions like "should posts about Buffy go in the 'geek'-but-really-anime/manga-journal or in the 'personal' one where all of my friends who actually like the show are?

Project Blue Rose was also really good, BTW, although obviously it appealed to me for different reasons. ^_^ I'm very glad I ordered it. (In that case, telophase sold me on it almost accidentally--I bought some BPAL from her, and she tucked some of her artwork into the package.) All the discussions that spun off from your "writing by cool bit" explanation were an awesome bonus, too. *^^*
